Embrace and enjoy the time right now Sleepy, it’ll NEVER come back, play around with the baby, give the missus a bunch of flowers, sit back and watch mom and baby together.

Keep it up Sleepy… For the rest of the life.

275 x 4

Had to work for these reps, RPE stayed above 8 for each of these. My bench feels stronger narrowing my grip slightly. Going to be sticking with this grip width for a bit (thumb length from the smooth, which ends up with my pinky being about an inch inside the rings).

SlingShot Bench Press - red

Not bad, I’m starting to get pretty consistent grooving out of a SlingShot, the movement feels quite comfortable to me.

That workout took awhile. Not a lot of energy coming into this one. Got through the main work slow, and then took my sweet time between sets on assistance. I was ready for a nap but managed to get all the work in.

I caught this Wenning BP video (maybe on flatsfarmers’ log) and I moved my grip in, felt a ton better as well, but there is some strong dudes that support the slightly closer grip!

I promise it gets better lol

I notice this too. I’ve been following James Strickland a bit and noticed he uses a slightly more narrow grip than most. It feels the most comfortable for me, so why fight it?!

Haha, thanks I hope so! My wife went to visit her family this week with our son, so I’ve been managing our house build and sleeping!! haha

Workout at the Track with Buddies (5 of us - Two are 175-185lbs and three of us over 200lbs)
Warmup
March with Chain Yoke - ~250lbs loaded
400m jog around track

Farmers Walk
100yards (yes, wtf) @ 155lbs per hand
100yards (yes, wtf) @ 155lbs per hand

The handles I used were my homemade ones and the clips kept slipping off. The handle on one kept rotating and the grass was long and thick. Those are my excuses for why I sucked so bad at these, but man oh man did they suck. No way I could do the 100yards without a drop. At 50yards my shoulders rounded down and I could barely bring air in. I’m going to feel these tomorrow. Three of us used 155lbs per hand and two of the other guys used 115lbs per hand.

Yoke Walk with Sprints
One person walked the 250lbs loaded chain yoke across the field while the other 4 sprinted the width of the field and back. Once the 4 people got back to the starting side the person with the yoke could stop. We did this for each person.
SO MUCH CARDIO. I was holding down puke since the farmers carry. I didn’t realize how bad my cardio has gotten, am going to try and improve this going forward.

Atlas Stone Over Shoulder with Pullups
One person would complete 6 stone over shoulders (145lb stone) while the rest of us did AMRAP pullups on the football uprights.

Clean and Press with Sprints
135lbs x 10
135lbs x 10

I skipped the sprints with the other 220lber who doesn’t do well with cardio lol, fatties.

Awesome workout, ass kicked. We went for a swim in the lake afterwards as a nice little cooldown. Planning to do this every week until winter hits. Fun times, but I’m going to be sore tomorrow!

Looks like that swim was a bit risky with all that fatigue!

Haha, I should have clarified. Swimming, for me, consists of simply being in the water. At no point was I deep enough that I couldn’t touch bottom. I suck at swimming on the best of days, attempting to swim after that workout would have been risky for sure!

Kirill and Spoto each have probably the widest of the Bench grips among those hitting mid 600s+ and their grip is middle of the road like ideal (vertical forearm on chest). Julius Maddox, Strickland, Hoornstra and Leroy Walker all seem to be closer than that.

It should be noted though that they are all bench specialists and have huge barrel chests and probably shorter than average arms so they can cheat some parts of the strength curve (off chest) to maximize leverages in other areas (lock out).

That got a lot longer than I intended, oops. I just wanted to say Sleeper your grip is now where mine used to be!!! I hit 450 with that grip width, I expect the same from you (or more)

I have the same grip width, so here’s hoping @littlesleeper bench goes more towards yours than mine.

I’d be more than happy with 405lbs! I hit 375lbs nearly 3 years ago, and have barely hit over 350lbs since! Eff bench.

I’m happy to have company in the poverty bench club. Although yours seems to be showing signs of progress, so it won’t be long before you’re well past me here!

Misery might love company, but the sooner we can disband the club the better.

Hey man how’s your knee?

Finally feeling better! That took a lot longer than I expected, it still isn’t 100% but I haven’t really had a chance to test it out either. Thanks for asking.

Brief general update:

Things are going well, just very busy. House build is taking a lot of my time, lots of visiting family and baby duties. One of my time commitments needed to find the back-burner, and right now that commitment is training.

Hopefully everyone is doing well, it is scary how fast this summer seemed to disappear!

Easy to lose your ā€˜me’ time with all of life happening around you, I have no doubt that you’re finding your balance, but it is something that is easy to forget about in light of all the new responsibilities! Taking care of yourself allows you to better help and take care of others!

Glad to hear. Looks like you being busy came at the best time…forced knee rest lol

I completely agree. With just the baby duties, I could find time for myself, but I’m burning the candle at both ends at the minute with a light at the end of the tunnel. Once the house is built, I’ll not only have freed up a significant amount of time/energy but have my home gym back together which will provide a lot more flexibility for getting the work in.

Hope all is well with you and the fam!

335 x 1
355 x 1 (Recent PR - Meet PR is 347lbs, so I was happy with this even if it was touch and go) I somehow hit a 375lb PR 3 years ago, and have been hovering around the 350lb mark ever since.
365 x 0 - planned on doing another touch and go rep, but instinctually went for the pause and then tried to rush the rep, missed it at sticking point.

Went for a 4km walk with my wife, baby and dog in the evening. I shall try to not let this Dad bod get carried away.
