Man United vs Barca Champions League Final

I don’t think Scholes starts for that reason. I hope Fletcher is fit. I predict Gerard Pique committing a foul in the penalty box and that being one of ManU’s goals. The other coming from a Ryan Giggs corner to Chicarito or Vidic. David Villa scores for Barca.
Just so you know, the original term “Man U” comes from a song sung by Leeds/City fans about the Munich air disaster, so don’t abbreviate us to that, use “United” or “Man United”. Not trying to a dick, but I thought you’d want to know.
Interesting fact. As an American I love learning things like that, keep 'em coming.

For those looking forward to the game this weekend, here is a link to a couple good pregame articles on ESPN:

One attempt on target, 36% ball possession, 31 fouls.

How can you keep a straight face and say they came out to win the game?

Let me get this straight: you’re saying that if Real Madrid’s goal had no been disallowed then they would have played the exact same game? Have you ever watched a team score and as a result seen their confidence go down the drain? really? wouldn’t you agree that once a team scores they will usually try to maintain their attacking role? specially when they know they HAVE TO score more goals to get the result they need?

Edited.

Exactly. No need for people to take things personally in here.

This is turning into a great, heated sports debate and that’s exactly what it should be. Spill it all, but don’t think that because someone makes a slight against your team or region, that they are judging you.
Gentlemanly glove slap across the face.

Classy.

I wonder if the Ryan Giggs infidelity with Imogen Thomas will be a distraction on him and/or the team? I sure hope not. Maybe he got some advice from Becks today at the Testimonial about dealing with affair gossip and lord knows Rooney has had his fair share of personal upheaval.

I hope they both lose. If that’s ever possible.

You’ll never walk alone.

Don’t hate. Rooney is from Merceyside. Liverpool might win title # 19 by the time Man United has won its 25th.

Gerrard should come to Manchester United to play before he retires. Be an empty career if he never wins a Premier League title. SAF will get him a medal just like he did with Michael Owen. Come to Manchester Stevie!!! You’ll never walk without a league medal around your neck.

What can I say, I like to keep things classy.

Is the game set to start at 2:45 ET?

We have a great example in the same game. Marcelo scored, after a big mistake of Barcelona, and Real Madrid did not have a single chance after that.
The goal was disallowed for a reason and it’s not a mistake. What am I supposed to say? Yeah, game would have been different if the goal would have gone up, but Mascherano would have reached the ball if Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn’t have tripped him over because Gerard pushed him.

You really can’t expect me to believe that Real Madrid masterplan was to wait with 0-0 (two goals under on aggregate) until some miracle and then, suddenly, they would start playing attacking football and utterly destroy Barcelona.

They couldn’t do it playing at HOME, they didn’t do it with 0-0 in the first half at Camp Nou and they certainly didn’t do it with 1-1.

didnt expect to see this on here barce barce barce, this is the biggest game in word football unmissable cant wait, barce have it all and will make united dance to there tune all night long!

Pretty cool short article on Neville’s last game at Old Trafford, and how he got to play it with a bunch of past Red Devil greats.

Is it common for teams to do these kind of team all star games? Are they doing that in league matches?

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/923140/man-utd-1-2-juventus:-gary-neville-bids-farewell-in-testimonial?cc=5901

It would be pretty interesting to see MLB, NBA, NFL, or NHL teams do that over in the states, especially in the case of sending off a team legend.

It would not surprise me at all if Manchester City splash enough cash at Real to get Ronaldo. Him and Mourinho simply don’t get along and Man City want a face of the franchise to show the world during the Champions League. Especially if Tevez decides to leave.

Its just a testimonial. If a player has spent a certain amount of time at a club (normally about 10 years or sometimes less if they’re about to retire) they will normally have a match held in their honour. Past club players or other big names are invited to play against another random/international/European club with the proceeds going to that player.

They normally give that money to a charity or cause their involved with.

Good article outlining why United will beat Barc:

Barca looked amazing, great victory, and overall a pretty clean game.

Very fun to watch.

Wow! First half belonged to ManU. I was nervous! They looked good. Its just impossible to sustain that intensity - manU played the first 15 mins like it was the last 15 minutes. And Rooney’s goal was awesome!

But once Barca got their groove…

honestly, i’m done seeing Barca win. Itd be nice to see someone show them up for once!

Their hunger for victory will end sooner or later. Xavi, Puyol and Iniesta have won everything already and even some of them many times.
But until then, time to enjoy!

This makes me very happy, because not so much ago we had some terrible years with Gaspart as president and depending on so many Dutch players that were not pulling their weight…
Then Joan Laporta entered the scene, trusted Rijkaard, got Ronaldinho…and it started there.
