Two things I have to say about this game:

  1. Barcelona are cheating scum and a disgrace to Football.

  2. COME ON UNITED: Let the good overcome the evil scum of Catalonia.
3. I’m tired of this. Watch this video : POR QUE MOU -20- Final Copa del Rey 2011 Barcelona - Madrid. Cómo robar sordamente..flv - YouTube
That’s from the cup final (days before the semifinals). Notice how dirty Real Madrid played and how many times they dived, yet they barely got any card and no red card (just double at the very end), even if they deserved a few.

So, after being annoyed at this, they dived like, three times in a two-legged match in Champions League? And they are “cheating scum”? How often do all teams dive, especially Spanish, Italian, etc.? Quite often. But now it’s just Barcelona.

You sound like a typical brainwashed Marca reader.

  1. You sound like a typical brainwashed Union Editorial reader. What is that “evil scum from Catalonia” you speak of? Have you ever been there?
Yes, just like Ronaldo and the Italian national team are known for their diving as well. What is your point? does that somehow justify Barcelona for passing through to the final of the most prestigious FIFA club competition in the world by being a bunch of dirty cheating divas?

That video of Real Madrid doesn’t show any mayor decisions that would have absolutely changed the course of the game, nothing that compares to the red that was given to Pepe and the goal disallowed to Higuain. Not only that but to get away with it in a Champions League semi final is fucking disgusting. Most footballers dive, its a fact of the game but to say that every team gets the same treatment as Barcelona does by referees is foolish.

I’m South American and have a lot of knowledge on the sport and the Spanish Culture. Obviously when I say evil scum of Catalonia I’m just being a critical and arrogant football fan, nothing else. I always respected Barca for their beautiful football up to the semi-final against Real, now they can go fuck themselves. I hope United overtakes them as it would be a shame for such cheaters to win the Champions League.

So Real Madrid deserved the pass? They had three shoots on target in 180 minutes. That’s a miserable way to deserve to go through. Barcelona got through because they had 80% of ball possession, many more chances, a solid defense and Leo Messi. You can justify it by the diving of three players or you can realize that one team’s intention was 0-0 at home and pray for a miracle away.

So, let me get this straight, Pepe getting a red card changed the game, but Real Madrid not getting any red cards during the cup didn’t change the course of the game? Nice double standard.

Higuain’s goal is disallowed because there’s a foul of Piqué over Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano loses the chance to play the ball, so game should have stopped there and a free kick should have been awarded to Real Madrid and a yellow card to Piqué.
Mascherano had the ball under control and he couldn’t reach it because he was tripped over by Cristiano Ronaldo. How is this possible? It’s foul of Cristiano Ronaldo, which comes from a previous foul by Piqué.

The referee made a mistake, but the goal should have never gone up in the scoreboard.

What about Marcelo’s penalty over Pedro which would have been red card as well? The “cheaters” didn’t get it.

I don’t think it’s so obvious, to be honest. I’m fairly new to this forum and I don’t know the people. Out of curiosity, from which South American country are you?

haha i love how this thread has turned into a Real vs Barca slaggin match when it started with man utd. Never mind, i’m a utd fan and i have to say i completely understand why barca are favourites. Some of the football they’ve played this season has been breathtaking but if anyone can beat them i think we can. Its already been proved this year that they are beatable and i think with SAF organisational skills and just the way he does his homework on teams will be the difference.

I’m not stupid, i know we cant beat them by playing them at their own game. But i know i’m not the only one who remembers 2008 when we beat them over 2 legs and defended like trogans. I think it will take another incredible defensive performance from the whole team, and a bit of magic from Rooney/hernandez. My prediction - 2-1 to utd in a tightly contested game. Barca most of the possesion.

I’m still surprised that Barcelona only lost 1-0 on aggregate against that Manchester with Cristiano Ronaldo in top form.

Rijkaard’s Barcelona was disintegrating itself, with stars like Deco, Ronaldinho or Eto’o bombing the environment for purely selfish reasons. Zambrotta was a former player, Henry was doing many things except playing properly, Abidal and Marquez were in low shape, etc.

All fans, me included, were afraid of Manchester and we expected to be totally destroyed at home, especially when MU got awarded a penalty that Cristiano eventually missed.

I’m proud of losing like that, to be honest.

Unless Man U properly pull it out the bag, Barca have this.

I hope man u wins it. Would home advantage not play a part? Surely there will be more English than Spanish supporters? I dunno how they’re allocated… but yeah, hopefully man u as they’re English. That’s as far as my football knowledge goes… that and Ryan giggs is shagging imogen thomas, and she’s FIT.

I hate Arsenal but the sending off of Van Persie vs Barca in the Quarterfinal changed a lot of that game. Sure, he shouldn’t have been so stupid and gotten the first yellow in pure retaliation but that second yellow he got for a split second shot on goal after the whistle with 90,000 Barca fans screaming in his ear was sad. Then you toss on that their goalie Szcesney getting hurt early on and having to bring on Fabianski was huge.

When your backup goalie hasn’t played in 2 or 3 months and is wearing knee wraps on the outside of his pants you know there’s gonna be some range of motion issues. Then adding insult to injury, Cesc Fabregas doing some ridiculous backwards heel kick in Barca’s end at the end of the 1st half was crippling. Just clear the damn ball Cesc. He tried to be way too cute in front of his homeland.

Barca vs Real first leg Mourinho had a plan. 3 stages of the game planned. Defend to ensure Barca didn’t score 1st half and then bring on a striker and midfielder to try and steal a goal. Well the Red Card totally changed all that and it was f’ing terrible. That referee should never be allowed to ref Champions League again.
The 2nd Leg I think Real were beaten before they even started playing. Down 0-2 aggregate they mentally weren’t there. Plus no Mourinho on the sideline was a killer to them mentally. Barca got a lot of questionable calls in their favor in the Quarters and Semi’s but that won’t happen (I hope) at Wembley. Will practically be a home game for ManU. If anything Alves will get sent of for being the punk bitch he is for doing something stupid or he’ll foul Hernandez or Rooney in the box in the box and change the whole dynamic of the game. If ManU should get up 1-0 it’ll be tough for Barca. ManU will build a wall with Ferdinand and Vidic, drop Carrick back and then catch Barca on the counter attack. Valdes can be had on the counter attack and Pique is going to want to impress but he’s not good enough to do it without fouling or getting caught out of position. SAF isn’t stupid enough to play the media and team mind games vs Pep like Mourinho was. I could keep going but I’m going back to bed. Let’s get off the Real vs Barca saga. It’s over for now. Real will bring in Tevez or Rossi as a true striker(let Man City deal with Adebayor)and/or make another big splash somewhere else if someone becomes available.(Garreth Bale as a dark horse?)

2-1 United, I’m sticking with my earlier prediction. One of ManU’s goals will be a penalty conversion due to Alves or Pique.

Exactly. No need for people to take things personally in here.

This is turning into a great, heated sports debate and that’s exactly what it should be. Spill it all, but don’t think that because someone makes a slight against your team or region, that they are judging you.

Barca is a bunch of flopping pansies.

Who cares.WE ARE LEEDS!

hahah I hear you guys are winning the English Premier next season…oh waitz…

Lol at Leeds. Millwall is my local team

My good friend from London is a Norwich fan. He’s pretty happy they are moving up but I only see it lasting 1-year.

-It is not up to us or the referee to decide how a game turns out. Teams should be as even as possible which is why FIFA needs to stop being so old school and start having instant replays for referees to see.

-As someone else mentioned Maurinho had a plan then came the red card which I may add was fabricated from a simple 50/50 chance of ball possession. After that the whole outcome of the game changed and Barcelona scored 2 goals, that was that.

-Then Real Madrid come out to win the second leg but get a goal disallowed, total bullshit.

This team is a joke, cheating scum. Oh and I’m from Colombia, you’re from Spain?

Speaking of Busquets, he plays for any other team and he gets a 3 game suspension for the racial slur he said during the Real match. But nope, not even probation or anything like that. I don’t have has much hate for Barca as Ronaldo7 does but they do get UEFA preferential treatment for sure.

I don’t think Scholes starts for that reason. I hope Fletcher is fit. I predict Gerard Pique committing a foul in the penalty box and that being one of ManU’s goals. The other coming from a Ryan Giggs corner to Chicarito or Vidic. David Villa scores for Barca.
Just so you know, the original term “Man U” comes from a song sung by Leeds/City fans about the Munich air disaster, so don’t abbreviate us to that, use “United” or “Man United”. Not trying to a dick, but I thought you’d want to know.

I was thinking the same when OP said “I’m not a bandwagon fan” and then saw ManU in the tittle lol.

Thanks man and no offense taken. I get “Americanized” when I talk about football (soccer here) and it’s like talking to kids about a sport they don’t understand. I typed ManU because a Chelsea fan I know always texts/emails me about Man United being ManUre (cow poop) so it’s stuck in my head. I know about the Munich Air Disaster and all that. I also have a good friend who’s a Spurs fan. He gets irritated when people say Tottenham, "dammit, it’s either Spurs or Tottenham Hot Spurs, never just “Tottenham” He grew up in London though so the White Hart Lane blood burns deep in him. I swear, I thought he was going die from over-excitement when the Spurs beat Arsenal this year at White Hart Lane after what, 17 years?

Just some thoughts about those vids posted by Ronaldo. Yes the diving by Barcelona players (particularly Mascherano) is disgusting and I believe there should be big repurcussions for that kind of thing, but the red card for Pepe was definitely deserved. There was no contact and Dani Alves is a huge faggot, but you simply can’t go studs up into a tackle like that, you deserve to be sent off.

The red card for that Inter player (sorry don’t know who it is) for the hand in the face also, yes I feel sorry for him, it looks like minimal contact and the Barca player writhes on the floor like he’s been shot (of course), but honestly, why the fuck did he fling his hand behind him like that? What an idiot, of course he doesn’t deserve to be sent off for being stupid but he should have known better than to do that.

The decision against Van Persie was diabolical, I remember watching it live and I was simply incredulous. Classic home decision but still pissed me off.

Watching those videos makes me hate Barca, but every team does it and to suggest Barca are only where they are because of this behaviour would be disingenuous.

As a West Brom fan who’s seen Man United a fair few times over the years (and on TV of course) they have their moments; Vidic and Ferdinand are dirty, Rooney’s a little thug, Park’s a diving little fairy and as for Nani…well, there are no words.

Be that as it may I’ll be rooting for United on saturday, I think they’ll win 2-1 (like most people in this thread), goals from Chicharito and maybe a cheeky goal from a corner.

did wigan get knocked out of the champions league yet?

Yonatan,

Barcelona was leading 0-1 in Emirates and got a goal unfairly disallowed. If the referee had taken the right decision there, it was 0-2 and the Van Persie red card in the second game would have never happened.
Red card to Motta? It was not red card, I agree. It was yellow card. Kinda funny though, he already had a yellow card, so the result would have been exactly the same.

I’m tired of people single picking mistakes and not taking a look at the whole picture. It’s really annoying.

One attempt on target, 36% ball possession, 31 fouls.

How can you keep a straight face and say they came out to win the game?

And yeah, I’m Spanish, but that doesn’t mean I like my country.
