Made it to 70

The evening with family, friends and food sounded good enough but to wake up and knock that swim/run out is seriously impressive. Had to convert it to miles. That was a 1.86 mile swim and a 1.24 mile run. Sounds like a challenging workout for a 25 year old. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

After a night of imbibing I get up and drink bout half gallon of water and work up a good sweat to clean out the system. Usually feel normal after that. For recovery from a real doozy of a fais do do been known to hit the sauna or steam room. Clears you right up.

Just got through with a line of Thunderstorms and a few tornadoes passing through. No damage. Check the tree line tomorrow.
Started both the last 2 days with quick 1500m swims at 0500. Zero fat plain Greek yogurt for breakfast and off to the courthouse by 0800 for Jury Duty. Must of been near 300 of us herded into a room, gave us a form to fill out, then started yelling out “if you … come up here and you can leave.” Lots got out of there then. Couldn’t match none of the reason so I was stuck. Took the remaining mob to a court room where we all got sworn in, twice. Off to another room. Head clerk (I think) came in an briefed us. 5 trials were “suppose to start” Trial 1 jurors, line up here, you’ll be taken to room whatever. I got called on the 3rd batch. Marched us off to do our duty. Making this quicker. I knew the judge personally. He called me to the bench, tells me “I’m gonna send you back to the pool Gene (they don’t call me Harry) but make sure you tell Remi bass fishing next week. Oh by the way, Judge xxxxxx’s holding court too so you can’t be on that jury either.” South doesn’t change that much. Went back to the juror pool, told to go home and come back today. Came back this morning, sat in the jury room for couple hours, told to go to the 3 floor, got a check and told thanks for coming". Never did get to see Perry Mason, Matlock or even the Lincoln lawyer. Hitting the weights tomorrow morning.

Well done you for doing your duty. LOL

We had tornadoes up around us too. It’s all they are talking about on the news this morning.

It’s not what you know but who you know. :joy:. Great to hear you mostly got out of it.

They say it’s random, but back in my early 20s I got called 3 times. Thankfully I moved out of that county. Knock on wood, haven’t been called again since.

You certainly have a full life. I just read through your log forward from April 1.

I suck at just sitting still. Usually Saturday night is relaxing night if I have nothing else to do.

Yesterday managed to get all the yard work done. Crappy weather for the next 3 days. Rain settled down to a drizzle in the afternoon so ran a quick (relatively) 2k. Settled in for a Saturday night. Sipping some Old Overholt 10 Year Cask Strength Straight Rye and smoking on a good ole Quorum Corona Maduro. Radio channel only plays 50/60/70s music, no DJ, no ads on. Boys in PI send me a pix of our normal Saturday night. High priced café, only the finest liquor, great service, outstanding ambiance. Hard to pick me out I know.

Early to the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home for one of our annual BarBQs. As usual the town came through with donations of food and drink. As usual Brother No.1 Remi took control of the grills. Ribs, Chicken, polish sausage, slaw, Potato Salad, etc. Smuggled in some whiskey and cigars (the attendants know about it). Proud as hell. All the brothers, wives, nieces and nephews showed up to help. Mutti even came down for a couple of hours. Still a couple of WWII vets she sat with. Nothing like watching 90+ year old GI’s try out their old Gasthaus German again. Good friends of the family helped out, Mike Rose (MOH) and Mike Durant (Black Hawk POW in Somalia). Spend most of the time just letting the vets talk. Loved seeing my teen nephews and nieces getting history first hand and really listening.

Love this. Great job! Sounds like a great time at the veteran’s home as well. Definitely great that your nieces and nephews get to hear history first hand. My grandfather was in WWII and used to tell me stories every time I went to see him. Wish I could go back and listen to them all over again…

Just for ego purposes tried to check on the Alabama state bench and dead record for my age and weight. Didn’t bother with squats. Haven’t been able to do a competition squat since my last shoulder work. There are more federation than boxing and wreslin combined. thought I’d found one in the 70+, 100k. I thought it was really low. Then saw it was a women. Damn. It was really high. Never did find a men’s record.

Today
Went down to check out the river. Running way to high and fast for a swim so just did a (wet) 2k run. Worked in the garage making a new mailbox pole from a 4 x 4 x 8. Want to replace the old one before I head off to the Philippines again.

Nice work Harry.

Here is a link for all records. You can see where the meets were done.
Powerlifting Rankings

Not all the “USA” listings have States listed though.

USPA, Alabama records though I would think are well within your reach.

Thanks very much. Doesn’t look like there are any Alabama records in my age and weight so not much fun in going after that. Can you compete in age groups younger than yours? The Powerlifting ranking had some good lifts I feel if ever concentrate on PL I think I could take. (Damn that sounds egotistical).

I was forced to go out to the cement pond (Natatorium for those who never watched the Beverly Hillbillies) yesterday. God I hate the smell of chlorine, if that’s what they still use. Got a 45 min block of time and just swam that. Just got into my zone didn’t even count laps until the the buzzer sounded.

Beautiful day today so started with a 2k run. Had some lose siding by the chimney and water was leaking in so worked on that most the day. The wife and assorted relatives headed out to the Asian and Mexican Marts to do some shopping. Left to my own devices had to come up with my own lunch so grilled up a nice 1.90 # TBone, some mushrooms and onions for lunch on my little on my small Char Griller. Baked some Brussel Sprouts with olive oil and had a good lunch. Sitting here now sipping my Jamesons and smoking a cigar.
