Yeah dude, that NSFW training is done at home, also good to know I’m sure[/quote]

This new information might change my plans for visiting.

Well, LWI West Coast isn’t going to be at my house, so no worries, I’ll at lesat have a jock on for squats. I can’t speak for GregAbz though…

Got a lower ME session in at the other gym I was looking into. This is the best piece of equipment in there, even has band pegs on the bottom, but no way to do reverse band squats or bench. I even took a physical inventory, to weigh my options and decide if this gym is worth paying only half what I pay at the other gym. Full report tomorrow.

That’s the cheaper gym? Fuck man I’d go with that one lol

Ok, so here’s the work that got done last night

Squats
Bar x some x 2
135 x 5 x 2
185 x 5
215 x 2
245 x 1
270 x 1 x 2 (90% of max)
280 x 1

The bar was nice, knurling was clean but not deep. Kind of like a 40 grit sand paper.

Deadlifts, just to use the platform, felt pretty good
135 x 5
225 x 5
315 x 3/1/1

That was enough, squats took it out of me, and I wasn’t really trying to break records or anything last night. I just wanted to see how I worked in this place.

Band GM’s
2 x 15

Pull Throughs
2 x 15

Used the whole stack for these, which isn’t impressive, as the stack only went to 90 whereas the ones at the other gym go up over 150-200ish I think.

So then I sat down, and took an inventory of what this place has to work with. Here it is…

2 flat benches
1 incline bench
1 decline bench
1 power stand thing (pic above)
1 squat rack (without adjustable catches)
1 smith machine
1 45 degree back extension
DB’s to 110
Plate loaded Hammer Strength machines
1 dip station
1 pec deck
cardio shit
2 step boxes (that I’d have to stack plates on anyway for box squatting)
Various machines

Pros:
-Not crowded at all
-Deadlifting platform
-Band pegs for band squats
-$29 a month w/o child care (vs the $50/mo at the other place)
-Could probably use chalk without issue
-Round plates

Cons:
-Nowhere to do reverse band anything. The band pegs are in the way of the plates on the rack, so I couldn’t set the bar there, and NO POWERCAGE. This is a big deal actually. A powercage being absent takes out rack pulls (can’t use the power stand because the lowest setting for the catches puts the bar about 1" below lockout), reverse band anything (which I’m loving), anything to/off of pins, ability to bench over 90% without needing a spotter, anything else you can think of why a cage is useful.
-DB’s only go to 110, and I’m just getting to that level, so it’d only hold me back
-Cable stacks are light

I don’t know, I guess it would be good if I were into just BB style training or whatever, but I’m not. It’s not as conducive to PL training and since that’s what I’m passionate about right now, that’s what I want to continue with. I’ll keep looking for a cheaper one that would be good, but I can’t settle for something that doesn’t even have a cage. If they got one (and they have the room for it), I’d probably join. Maybe I’ll let them know they should get one, if they want ME to train there. Haha

Rough night’s sleep last night. Little Miss wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t sleep, so she wound up in our bed so that at least we’d be able to get SOME sleep. Tired this morning, needz mah coffee!

Probably get 2 (maaaaaybe 3) workouts in before leaving. Maybe an ME upper, then both DE sessions, and then it’s a 12 day “deload”. My return should be “interesting” to say the least!

Yeah, maybe I’m just being a picky bitch, I don’t know.

Cons = I can’t use all my fancy new toys

Hahaha just messing with ya. Almost africa time! I’m super pumped for you. I had a lot of fun out there (when we had down time) and all the people were really nice. We meet some South African girls at the hotel we stayed at on our way home and OMFG!!! they were some seriously smokin hot babes. It was ridiculous… And those accents? WOOOOOOOOOOOHH!!!

You’re gonna have a blast out there.

No power cage SUCKS.

I’ve been getting by without one though. I think the only “pro” my gym has from that list is that no one gives me shit for using chalk, actually. Oh, and round plates.

But it’s a 3 minute walk.

Like Gunny Highway would say: Improvise! Adapt! Overcome!

Yeah, see I knew I was being a bitch about it. I mean, it’s less money, and closer, so maybe I should just DEAL WITH IT.gif

4 days and a wake up. I’ll have a “blast” all right Greg, hopefully it goes “Blast…THUMP” x 4, and I’ll be golden. Sipping beers and eating african game by the fire. Shit’s gunna be epic.

you can set up matts or plates for elevated dls. dunno about the reverse band stuff though

Yeah, Herc used plates to pull from sometimes, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before. Maybe I can figure out some way to do reverse band stuff, or I’ll just keep bugging them until the buy a fucking cage.

That gym isn’t sounding that bad after all.

what is their National Beer down there? In Kenya the beers were Tusker and Pilsner. Both didnt taste particularly good (especially since they’re served at room temp if you didnt ask for cold ones) but after a while they grew on ya… and by “after a while” i mean like 4 months lol

Do you have a GoPro? You should get one and then you could have a helmet cam vid of your hunt… can you say BALLER?

I don’t have a GoPro, but there should be some hunt vids for sure since I’m bringing my Flip, dad’s bringing his, and he also got some bino’s that have a camera built in. not sure how good they are, but I’ll do what I can to not disappoint. Not sure what the local beer is, but I’m hoping it’s something better than the horse piss & formeldahyde (sp?) they had in Singapore. Good GOD that shit SUCKED ASS.

Just saw this in an artice on EFS today, think it would make another good ME lower main lift, si?

http://articles.elitefts.com/articles/training-articles/how-to-win-meets-and-influence-squats-and-deadlifts/

Pulled up to the gym and saw a sick ass Bentley coupe in the parking lot, baller much?

ME upper, started with the Devil’s Triangle Complex to start. Kicked my ass.135/115/95, all for 6 reps.

Floor press
Hit 265x1x2 which I’m pretty sure is at least a 20# pr. Haven’t done heavy singles on this forever

CG bench
13512
160
10
185*6
Worked on foot placement and leg drive, think it’s working for me.

Rope pressdowns
3*12

Face pulls
3*12

Pinwheels
3*12

Done. Felt good, pumped, and not completely wrecked. Couple DE sessions left before my trip, so I gotta make them count

Just lurking. Hi Ink. Now I need to go look up Pinwheels. YAY AFRICA!!

Fraak. I want to smash something.

Hi Inky!
Give the lions a hug for me, they’re sooo cute and cuddly.
:stuck_out_tongue:

If I recall, in that article about dead squats there is mention that the exercise is a supplement not a replacement. But that isn’t to say that you can’t cycle it into your lower ME rotation.

Use it as an accessory imo

LOL! @ the “DEAL WITH IT.gif” - You crazy!

$29 a month for a gym membership?! That’s insanity - and that place looks legit! I like how you took “inventory” btw. lol! Way to do your due diligence. My kind of guy

YAY!! Africa!!! mm…warthog…safari bacon!
