Around ten years ago I went o my doctor complaining of low libido. It killed my marriage and only then did I decide to do something about it. I was referred to a clinic specializing in sexual issues at Boston University, where I was told that my testosterone was low for a man my age. I was then 43.
The “solution” then was to find “an understanding partner”. No mention of TRT, nothing. I also suffered from a low level depression. I went from relationship to relationship with the same issues. I had a lot of other typical low T symptoms, such as lethargy, tiredness and the one that bothered me the most, metabolic syndrome. No matter how much I worked out I couldn’t get rid of the large amount of visceral fat around my abdomen.
Finally I could take no more. I met a very nice woman and I was determined I was going to make it work. I went to my doctor who basically laughed at me, so I fired him and found another, more receptive doctor. I told him how I felt and he immediately had me tested for low T. It came back at 284. He put me on Axiron, 60 mg per day. I’ve been on it for two months now and just went back to have my levels checked. Now it is at 1000 and he wants me to stay on the same dose for another 3 months.
He seems to think it will settle down. I think otherwise. My symptoms have improved, much less tired and anxious, more energy, better able to concentrate and my memory has improved. My libido had improved a few weeks after starting to the point where it felt like I was 25 again but now it has gone back to where it was. Not only that but I felt good about myself and found that I was much more outgoing and sociable. It seems like on the way I passed the point where it was optimal and now I feel like the level might be way too high. I am sure others have experienced this so I would appreciate any comments/advice on what to do next.
