Low T and High Thyroid (3.5) at 18 Y/O

I had a physical with some blood work done 4 weeks ago. Taken with 3 or 4 hours after waking. I only got the results 2 weeks ago. I’ll try to get a copy of the results here in the following business week to post other numbers I wasn’t told. He told me my Thyroid was off with a number of 3.5. I haven’t been able to find a whole lot of info on the subject(partly because I’ve been studying my T) but I believe this is high? All he said about it was that it would be hard to lose fat. Kind of sucks but I can manage.

He then went on to tell me my T was low with a 4.2, he said these levels weren’t too low, but in 10 years I would be on medication for it. Now I’m pretty sure what he meant to say was 420, because I know that any doc would know that 123 free test is seriously low. He wants me to come in for more blood work in 6 months time. The problem I’m having is that I’ve been experiencing the effects of low T for awhile without really knowing what it was.

Looking back I was 5’11" in 8th grade captain of the football team, shot put and discus champ. Then at the end of my freshman year in 2009 I had a series of serious neck sprains keeping me out for the season (every time I was cleared I’d re-sprain it) I then started falling behind in the weight-room. I’m not sure if that could possibly damage a pituitary gland or not. I recently had a CT scan up there for a sinus infection and they didn’t notice anything odd.

Anyways these are my symptoms:

No sex drive, I hardly even think about it.
One erection a day, always morning wood. This is messed up, I used to have like 20 a day.
Always tired. (around 11 hours sleep at night)
Mild depression, I think because I’m always so damn tired.
I have problems actually getting to sleep at least 5 or 6 nights a week.
Low stamina, especially prevalent during leg exercises.

          info:

age: 18
height: 6’
weight: 182
body hair: good hair on my legs not much of anything on my chest, some facial hair but not enough to look good grown out.
waist: 33 1/2"
I hold fat on my love handles, and lower abs. I’ve weighed 215 at one point in my life funny enough sophomore year right after my neck injury. That weight was mainly on my waist.
No health conditions or allergies. Have had one mild concussion, and maybe another(I never got it checked out)
I get about 3000-3200 cals a day. Fish oil supps and one a day mens. Whey after lifting and before bed. lean proteins, complex carbs and healthy fats. It’s my vision of what a perfect diet is.
5-6 days of weight training. Started 4 months ago after one year of no training. Super set everything, 13-16 sets anywehere from 18-12 or 12-6

Post the results when you get them. Your doctor is riduclous for wanting you to suffer for the next 6 months–what the fuck is he expecting to happen in that time? you will magically get better?

Fire his ass and find one that is actually competent and gives a shit about you.

Got a copy of the blood work from last months test. Not as much information as I would have liked. Getting a referral to and Endo tomorrow. Probably going to Vanderbilt Medical, I’ve done some research on some local doctors but none stand out. Can’t find any info doc in the middle TN area(checked the find a doc thread). Any info would be much appreciated not looking for trt at my age just to isolate and fix whatever issues I have. Here’s what I did get from lab tests

Tests done: CMP14 LP CBC/D/Plt TSH Testosterone
Only useful info I see on these tests are

Total Cholesterol 153 (100-169)
TSH(Thyroid Stim Hormone) 3.710 (0.45-4.5)
Testosterone serum 423 ng/dl (188-882)
Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy 47.9 (30-100)
BUN 22 (6-20)
BUN/Creatine ratio 25 (8-19)

From all of this I’ve gathered that I need to see an Endo and to invest in a Vit D supplement.
My BUN was a little high in accordance to my high protein diet. I’m guessing the goes for the BUN/creatine ratio as well. Like I said any info on a good doc in the Middle Tennessee area would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate i made an account to reply to this. Im 19, male and have also had a high TSH, my highest was around 3.5 and i felt like shit none stop! My thyroid antibodies where at the maximum reading aswell. Do yourself a favour and get in touch with Dr. Myhill, im taking 125mg of thyroxine at the moment which isnt a significant amount but i can definately see a difference. If possible you should also stay out of any stressful environments, and try not to scoff too much food. doesnt do you any favours with thyroid problems.

also the current readings for acceptable TSH (0.45 - 4.5) are complete bollocks, put anybody at 4 TSH and theyll soon tell the difference, no matter how healthy

oh forgot

Alkaline Phosphate, s 61 (60-400)
This might be a low level considering I’m 18 and should still be growing somewhat.

Thanks for the tip on Dr. Myhill. That’s definatelly a good second or third option if I can’t find an Endo that will treat me (Don’t want to pay out of pocket for what insurance could). Today’s been a roller coaster. Stress from doctors, family, women, fatigue… etc. INeed to find an answer to all of this and fast.
