Lots of people from Ontario on this site from day 1. Lots of lurkers too.
We just need better gyms than the Goodlifes/Premiers/Extreme spas that are taking over everything
Goodlife in my experience has been pretty good… let me train in socks, use chalk, clang weights.
yeah actually for the most part i dont have trouble with Goodlife itself. I just dislike the trainers my gym happens to hire… and a lot of the people who happen to go there…

The best gym I’ve ever been at is the Track and Field centre at York University. Awesomely cheap, lot of track athletes(duh) and the weight room is just badass.
Also, the North York YMCA is pretty kickass. They don’t allow chalk though, but that’s the only downside I’ve found so far.

I use to train at the North York YMCA, was doing Rack pulls once and a personal trainer came over and told me the noise was scaring the elderly.

I know 2 personal trainers there and they’re awesome! I worked with them when I was doing co-op at the NY YMCA. If you ever see Francis(chinese guy) and John(white guy), those guys are very approachable and they definitely know their shit!

Dude, I think I know you. If you remember a kid who worked there a few months ago in the winter, that was me.

Don’t get me wrong. For the most part Goodlife gyms are “okay” by which I mean the trainers leave you alone to do your thing (e.g., chalk, DLs, cleans, etc. If you look like you know what you’re doing they keep their distance - I’ve had a few then take the exercise I was doing then use it with their clients after the client asks “What is he doing?”) & the main sore point are the rail thin thug wannabes & clueless teens that flood the place. Etiquette is pretty much out the window with those simps. But it’s a free country.
I’ve tried to rig up a prowler type setup at my Goodlife using an upside down bench & plates but the general clueless populace wandering around kills that idea. (Building up speed on weighted sled down carpeted hall + running into gym bunny leaving cardio studio = not good.)
I’m quite certain I’ve run into other lifters from this site at the various gyms I’ve been to around Toronto. IMO we’re a quiet bunch, keep to ourselves, unless you’re the type to actually rock the T-Nation shirt(s) to which most people would say “Hey is that some Celtic design?”. My calling card are the various Vibram KSOs I rock.
Whoever mentioned 365 has it spot on. When my GL membership expires I’ll give that place a serious go. Only reason I’m at a Goodlife is that it fits the family budget right now (corporate rate FTW)
Some other Ontarians seem to be missing from this thread… where’s Jaystyles, bond james bond, & chokeonstrength? Roll call!

I detest the GoodLife here. I suppose I shouldnt judge them all by the one in the Sault. They have kettle bells but wont let you use them until you pay for a course on how to use them…seriously.

LOL! That’s pretty funny. I’m originally from PEI, somehow my wife convinced me to move to the Hammer.
I moved here, then convinced my woman to move out here too… I don’t know what I was thinking. My daughter now has asthma because of the delicious toxins our sweet plants exude.
