Looking for Advice on My Program

where would you find the workouts? on-line?

geech, I started sumos to help flexibility(hip flexors) but wanted to see if doing regulars still bothered my back
one of my issues is that my workouts are all over the place…usually how I feel that week. I wish I had your ‘stick to the program’ ability.

A less kind person would have said ‘obsessive-compulsive mentality’.

As for flexibility, I know you have already looked at OH squatting (oh yeah, something I intend to work in myself … later). I don’t know whether you might find this article applicable, but I have found this simple technique a helpful aid both in terms of flexibility and back relief:

The Third-World Squat, by Craig Weller,

and the corresponding discussion:

thanks Geech

A.close grip bench to max
135x5, 225x5, 315x1(easy), 365xmissed
B1.close grip bench 275 5 sets
B2.goblet sqaut 80lb DB 5 sets

Thought I would get 365. I did this workout in less then 20 minutes because I didnt have the time.

That’s good strategy: miss a max? do reps. I have a buddy that does that - he calls them “punishment sets.”

I’ll have to do that next time.

Thanks for the input. I fall forward with front squats.

I got the big tire home I found in a nearby sand pit. Its like 5 feet tall and must be 300+/- lbs. I killed myself getting it home. I hurt my left elbow so bad I’ll most likely take the week off from training. I’m pumped to do a sand bag-big tire workout.
You are a better man than I am.

Thanks for your encouraging words guys.
Trying to come up with several no frills time saving workouts.
This one was quick.

5/15
A1.left arm military db press 90lb 8 sets 3 reps
A2.right arm same
A3. left side bend 90lb 8 sets 5 reps
A4. right side same

No rest between A1-A4, around a minute btw cycles. Sets 7 and 8 of the military were push press.

Do any of you have friends and family that think you’re nuts because you want to lift a ton of weight and walk around the yard with 100lbs of sand? I’ve scoped out this big used loader tire in a sand pit I’m trying to get home…my wife thinks I’m a nut. Anyone else have this happening?
I’m kinda surprised that trying to grab an old tire out of a sand pit would be considered nuts in New Hampshire.

It would only be nuts around here if I wasn’t drinking beer at the same time. (NH has the second highest alcohol consumption per capita in the US)

On Fridays I workout at Planet Fitness during lunch. I usually do deads or cleans…some kind of pull exercise. I’m quiet, mind my own business don’t bang the weights, etc. Today ,on my way out, the front desk girl says to me,‘my manager asked me to tell you that you can’t do deadlifts here because they’re a bodybuilding exercise and we don’t allow bodybuilders here.’ I was so pissed but I held my tongue and simply replied,‘I guess I won’t be coming here any more.’ I used to like Friday workouts.

cleans 135x6,185x5,205x3,225x1,205x3,185x5,135x8
speed dead 250 6 sets 1 rep
deadlift 375x1 fast
stiff dead 315 3x3
1 arm seated row 90lb 5x5
chin BW 8 sets 3 reps
DB curl 40 2 sets

I finished in 40 minutes.
My cleans are more of an assisted upright row. I just can’t squat down as you snap the weight at the top. But I still like them.

Good liftin’!

You are a better man than I ecogenx! I would have been in the managers face in a instant.

soldog, I knew if I blew up it would be ugly. I used to have a terrible temper but have learned to control it.

I’ve been really good with my eating habits lately. I hope that by next Monday I’m below 255 (that would be 3.5 lbs). The diet part is so hard for me. I really am weak when it comes to ice cream, beer and re- filling my plate 3 times at every meal.

Ditto on the beer! potato chips are my other down fall.

“We don’t allow bodybuilders here?”

You’re well shut of them. How 'bout if they go whole hog and don’t allow anybody in the place, but you can pay your monthlies for the privilege of saying you’re member? Ridiculous. Nice how the manager made a subordinate ask you to stop when he was the one with the concern. feh.

Those are called high pulls and they are super for building explosiveness and a huge yoke.

thanks skid for making my poor form cleans sound like a real exercie.

That is a downer about that gym since you liked your routine. I was going to suggest you look closely at your contract to see if it might be worthwhile to then go and talk to the manager directly, but after reading some reliable-looking info on the net, some from the chain itself, I suspect it would all be a waste of your time, and that they could thwart you if not one way then another.

Good for you that you kept cool; we will be looking to see what you make of this unexpected opportunity to arrange your Friday workouts differently!

Gee, I’m glad our local city recreation center doesn’t give any hassles.

Darn.

This is a sure sign the world is coming to an end. If I join one and grunt while taking a dump in the bathroom will the lunk alarm go off?
