I haven’t even ruled out Canada, at this point. Uni. of Waterloo definitely piqued my interest. What can some of you Canucks tell me about Ontario? Thanks for the feedback, all. Truly appreciated.
If you decide to check out Western Canada I recommend Calgary Alberta. Clean, safe, young professionals, lots of nightlife any day of the week, the public transit is the best of any city I have lived in. There is a university www.ucalgary.ca/ too.

Calgary transit sucks pretty hard.

Calgary transit is like Germany’s compared to Edmonton’s. I’ve used them both extensively. I miss Calgary.

I’ve lived in Calgary all my life and love it to death. I do, however, disagree with your opinion on the transit system. We’re like ten years behind everyone else in Canada. Calgary transit sucks pretty hard.

I spent my teens in the NE (outskirts) and my 20s near downtown and I found it to be awesome, I never even owned a car. I figured that Beast would be living near the University, near good transit. You should try transit in the Frazer Valley it really sucks, I have to own a car as it is impossible to get around via transit here.

Me too. :frowning:

Why not go to Colorado? Lots of skiing and outdoors stuff and you could go to UC?

Weird that you have this opinion. I was in Edmonton last summer for a bit, and their transit system seemed leaps and bounds ahead of ours. Namely the entire system being a subway in the downtown core. Pretty sure when the City of Calgary was building our transit system, we were rushing it to be operational for the '88 Olympics.

Boston or upstate NY sound like good places based on your criteria. Both have lots of schools to choose from, 4 seasons, culture, outdoor activity, you would be close to a city and plenty of country. They also have good job markets which some of the other suggestions do not.

If it was me I’d choose San Diego or Hawaii.

Come to Ohio. I need a training partner.

Beast some place without flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, no state income tax and 4 seasons of weather.
is this place called OZ and the PR people are 38" tall?

check out North Carolina. great schools like UNC(with satellite campuses in Ashville for example), Duke, NC St. http://www.univsource.com/nc.htm
good fishing(salt and fresh), camping, hiking, mtn. biking, rock climbing, skiing. drive from the coast to the mtns in a few hrs. all types of music, pro and college sports and rassaling.
live in a big city, a small town, or a cabin in the woods. it’s a great place to decompress. good gyms and meets like “Battle on the Border” http://www.carolinastrength.org/

good luck and welcome back.

I was going to say about the same thing to DJ…vague is not helpful. Seems you are amongst many to recommend NC. My FB page is blowing up with a lot of NC votes. I guess it’s worth looking into further. Especially if there’s places for me to disappear or fight. Thanks.
Sorry guys was on the way this morning to church, when I get done traveling down to Corpus and settled into the hotel I will “share” more.

Silver I thought you should have gone with “Silvertown” out of Joe Dirt. :P
i’ve never seen the movie
O: But you are from the south, that is our Oscar winning movie.

Beast you want to work with overweight children? Go to south Texas, there is an actual National study on the marked rise in Type II (adult onset) Diabetes in children.
I’m not sure if there is much anyone can do or say that would get me to return to Texas. No outdoor activities to enjoy down there…like mountains. I like mountains. And winter.
Maybe Montana, you and that pushharder guy can team up and terrorize the townswomen for miles around.

Mountains are the way to go for sure. Portland or Denver wouldn’t be bad. Vancouver for sure would be my pick if in your horrible…horrible predicament.

I find MT to be absolutely beautiful for 1/6 of the year. the other 10 months this place is a cold, desolate wasteland.

______ has a lot to offer other than just school. It’s cool, you’ll be with me, I’ll show you haw to have fun in my old stomping grounds.

Portland is nice, no sales tax and good people. I don’t live in the actual city though, prefer the nearby suburbs. Weather varies a bit in Oregon, I go to school in Corvallis and there’s a surprising lack of rain- winter is just cold. Back in the Portland/Beaverton area though it’s much rainier, especially during springtime. That’s not to say it’s constantly rainy, the summers get really hot and spring and fall usually have nice t-shirt weather so it’s got it’s seasons.

How much you get in terms of outdoor activities varies a bit more. The climate can be a bit over the place in certain parts- we used to have a class week long camping trip in elementary school and we’d go to the various parts, and they all had unique things to offer. You really want to be closer to the mountains if you want outdoor activities, but if you do you can pick between warmer activities like hiking and birdwatching, or colder ones like snowboarding, skiing, etc., provided you don’t want to live in those relative areas there’s a lot of places to rock climb and a few athletic clubs in the area which, although aren’t the real thing, are usually good enough at everything to be satisfying in their own right.

It’s not a big and busy area like NY, so you’ll probably find it more laid back. The people are friendly and pretty open to pretty much anything. I have never seen anyone get discriminated against in this state except at an airport (I’m an arab, so it’s kind of bound to happen) for any reason.

I don’t have much experience in other states though, my family’s always taken vacations outside the country, so I’d look into your other options heavily too. They might all be just as nice.

I do agree with therajraj though, college is only 4 years. Go to a good school and then use your stupidly inflated income to relax for the rest of your life.

Hmm…I’ll give it some thought, I suppose. I do have a difficult time imagining myself at such a school, as I’ve been out of school for 13 years now.
