Damn man, I’m sure that’s frustrating just to think about. I don’t think I’ll be trying to hit 315 until I think I can squeeze out a double, which is definitely a ways away! Even then, I haven’t ever filmed myself benching. I suppose this has been such a long time coming, so I’ll do my best to suck it up and just capture it on footage. Realistically, I’m thinking sometime later in June. But would that more so discourage you or motivate you in the midst of rehabbing? Not tryna drag you while you down!
Haha thanks man. It’s definitely tempting to bulk up a bit and push the numbers even more, but this is the weight I want to be when I’m older and I hate trying to lose weight.
Yesterday’s workout was oh-kay. I wasn’t really planning on working out, but my girlfriend said she wasn’t going to come home until after 9pm and my legs were feeling okay despite my heavy squat and deadlift sessions earlier in the week. That said, 315 felt slow on most of the sets. I think I actually did 9 sets, but I wasn’t certain if I’d hit my goal of 8 so I did an extra for good measure.
The kid using the squat rack before me decided to ask me a bunch of questions as I was warming up. He also came up to me between my 4th and 5th triple to ask more questions as he was leaving. He seems like a nice enough guy, around my age, and I’m always happy to talk about working out/programming/nutrition, but I just don’t like to while at the gym. Oh well. Nice to meet you, Mike.
I never saw any reason to call it off since no one made it. Life and priorities have changed for both of us but we’re still chasing it. We never set a time frame so we’re still on until one of us makes it!
Sounds good! Thinking about our little challenge and getting your notifications every once in a while played a huge part in getting me back into lifting after taking time off. So it’s much appreciated!

Life has not been smooth sailing for the past week. This of course spreads its impact to multiple facets, so diet, exercise, sleep, etc. have been inconsistent. Today I leave for a short trip, so yesterday I wanted to at least just hit everything at decent weight. Hoping I can squeeze at least one workout in while traveling. Multiple days off really are not usually good for me. I have fully lost my momentum and need to get my head back in it.
I had a great trip this past week. Came back feeling out of shape and weak, though. So it was nice to have high volume on my back and some decent weight in my hands today. I was worried I had taken a step back after my inconsistency these past weeks, but the weight + set/reps tonight are still progress, so I’ll take it.
Well I went to the gym on Tuesday and yesterday. Tuesday I felt as weak as ever. Did maybe 10 sets of two exercises and called it. Yesterday wasn’t much better, but I forced myself to hit some conventional singles beltless. Just worked my way up to five singles of 365 lbs. Ended with a bunch of pull ups. Looking back on my logged workouts today has helped me stay motivated because I’ve been feeling absolutely weak as piss.
Apologies for not keeping up with the log. My training has been quite inconsistent, but still getting it in 2-4 times a week. A couple of great workouts too!
I hit 435 lbs on conventional deadlift a few weeks ago.
I hit 455 lbs on sumo this week.
I still can hit 300 lbs for a few singles on the good ol’ bench.
Perhaps most significantly, as of this week, my girlfriend has been actually lifting with me for the first time! I don’t get to lift as I usually do and spend most of my time helping her tweak with her technique, but I enjoy it!
Oh, and bodyweight is still sitting at ~173 lbs, but I am significantly less leaner (at least to my dysmorphic eye, my gf says I look more or less the same).
