I occasionally use Greens+ powder in my protein shakes and just noticed that it contains 60mg of licorice root powder per serving. I keep seeing articles on how licorice root can lower testosterone but then I see stuff about licorice cream supposedly increasing testosterone.
Poliquin mentioned it helps only when cortisol levels are low or something like that. So now I declare I am officially fucking confused. Does anyone know what the deal is with licorice? I love my Greens+ but obviously don’t want to ingest anything that might work against me. Thanks!
seems like the amount in Greens+ is very little compared to the study I linked.
that, and if John Berardi is a big believer in it, I doubt it’s anything to worry about… that said, I’ve alsways liked the ingredients of Biotest’s Superfood over Greens+

Hey thanks for the link…I shall check it out. I pop on now and then to peek around but I just lost interest in posting.
From my understanding, licorice serves to extend the half life of cortisol… thus you should get some decent energy while giving your adrenals a bit of a break. That should leave you with more pregnenolone that can be converted to testosterone
Thanks…I’ll do some research. I’m a bit leery about herbal supplements. I remember years ago trying some yohimbe bark extract sup and it gave me serious heart palpitations. I remember thinking I was gonna have a heart attack right in the middle of the gym. Not fun!
How Any person with half a Brain NOT know the side effects of Yohimbe Bark
is beyond me, There MUST have a cautionary warning about it Rrrrright on the bottle there
my friend.
'Sounds like you learned the hard way.

You make it sound like it’s as common knowledge as smoking or sniffing paint thinner.

Sheesh…take it down a notch buddy. I love how people are so damn sure of themselves when they come out all brazen like that. This was the early 90’s and I don’t recall if there was a warning but if there was, I’m sure it said MAY cause such and such and not will DEFINITELY cause such and such. I tried it because a buddy of mine was using it and he didn’t mention any adverse effects.
And I’m sure my half a brain will give your entire a brain a run for it’s money.

Thanks. Yes I posted on the PN forum and was told the adverse effects from licorice were the result of much higher doses than 60 mg. But I’m not taking any chances. There are many greens superfood products out there and I just found one that doesn’t contain any. Problem solved.

In 1moereps defense same thing happened to me (knowing it was a stimulant) except I also get chills and flu like symptoms and horrible nausea. I was a big ECA stack user without problems and would be able to tolerate large amounts of coffee and/or ephedrine with no problems. Live and learn I guess lol.
