Legalizing Weed
SuperAlienFreak wrote:
I can’t be bothered to debate why it should be illegal or whatever. But I smoke weed pretty much every day and I still work 12 hour shifts, workout 4 times a week, do whatever shit I need to and spend alot of time with my friends and my girlfriend. Before I smoked I used to get into a fair few fights and in trouble alot when I drank. I think out of the last 3 times I went out without smoking I got arrested twice and had a few fights, never been in any trouble when smoking and the only crime I commit now is actually smoking it. Just like to point out that I know I shouldn’t of been fighting and shit anyway but for me weed makes my life easier lol.
I know some one a little like you , this person would be very antisocial if he did not smoke every day.

This “debate” sucks. It is basically a thread for an old man afraid of change to shout loudly at the kids on his lawn.

The truth?

-Fact: Studies have shown marijuana decreases lung cancer strains which SHOULD warrant further study that could benefit us all.

-Fact: Marijuana is not chemically addictive any more than caffeine.

-Fact: You have specific cannabanoid receptors in your brain so the notion that it specifically kills brain cells is a little mis-represented.

A little?

It kills brain cells in rhesus monkeys if you give them 200 times the psychoactive dose.

Try that with alcohol and nicotine and you have a lot of dead monkeys.

(Oh good we’re getting personal now. Okay, let’s go)

Or is it a thread for an aging black liberal who says he’s a doctor to spew lies?

You are far to biased to recognize the truth.

That’s not what this study says:

http://www.csdp.org/news/news/mjcancer_020108.htm

And this one says at best there have not been enough studies done to determine one way or the other:

You mean the caffeine that so many people are addicted to? That caffeine?

http://www.overcaffeinated.org/caffeine-addiction.php

But that doesn’t mean that it cannot damage the brain…or don’t you understand?
Long-term marijuana use may actually shrink certain parts of the brain and have lasting effects on mental health.

A new study shows heavy marijuana use over several years was associated with structural differences in at least two different regions of the brain, the hippocampus and amygdala.
Your facts, like you, just don’t measure up!

@ZEB - I don’t believe you ever addressed the links I posted, perhaps you just missed them.

A mere oversight on his part, I am sure.

I’ll take it one step further. No one, including you, has responded to the many links that I’ve posted.

My links were in support of my counter argument; you’re avoiding this I see…

Pretty weak retort for all of the links that I posted and the many points that I raised regarding the topic.

But…at least you’re consistent

And my links were in support of my argument. You conveniently ignored all of them.

The fuck I did! I read them, I get it; you think that smoking weed causes lung cancer (just like tobacco btw), you think it lowers IQ, you think that marijuana, if legalized, would usher in a dark age of dope smoking darkness. I fucking get, you asshat. I don’t need to respond point for point on all of your bullshit links to understand your position, which is why I countered your position with evidence and studies of my own.

Did you get that, you clown? With evidence and studies of my own. So until you respond to my counter argument, you’re avoiding the issue.

Jesus christ, ZEB…grow the hell up.

Ladies… calm down. We all learned in grade school that drugs are bad. Just say NO.

You actually didn’t respond to my main points regarding consumption. I will repeat it just for you:

When a drug is legalized, legitimized and advertised there will be more consumption. This is not a theory it has been proven with alcohol. And in fact is one of the laws of capitalism.

I thought that was rather kind of me to repeat my basic thesis just for you. Especially considering the fact that you are one of the top three biggest ass clowns on T Nation. And you are no doubt ignored by more people than the other two.

Now if you are able try to come back and address those specific points. If…you are able.

So what ? We are spending Billions if not trillions to control a non problem

We’ve spent about 1 trillion over 40 years. And I’ve already posted links which speak directly to the reason it IS a problem and would be a rather large problem if legalized. You have, so far, been unable to refute one single thing that I posted.

I get it you like to smoke pot…ho hum

You must live on a different planet than I do, American Society has to be spending 50% of it Police ,Court and incarceration on the war on drugs

If we could take alcohol and THC out of their social contexts, unburden them of their respective stigmas, and examined them objectively side by side–their health effects and, probably more importantly, their effects on behavior and social interaction–I doubt very much that we would decide to legalize alcohol and criminalize marijuana. In fact, that seems to me the only outcome that would be totally unjustifiable: a strict, paternalistic legislative body might decide to outlaw both; a laxer group of lawmakers might legalize marijuana and criminalize alcohol; and at the other end of the spectrum you’d have the anti-nanny-state in which both substances were legal.

As for myself, I don’t know exactly how harmful marijuana is to personal health. Both sides of the debate can produce studies to support their arguments. Let’s just say it probably isn’t as healthy as fish oil, but it’s also probably not substantially more detrimental than alcohol and certainly not as crippling as frequent and sustained consumption of soda and french fries. In terms of mental health, it probably doesn’t come close to the damage that professional football players are paid millions of dollars to do to themselves.

So if we decide that the personal health effects are unremarkable–and there’s a case to be made against the government telling us too much about our own safety anyway–we are left with the effects on society. Here, marijuana is pretty clearly harmless relative to other legal substances.
