This is just a last couple of weeks thing. Brad had a very decent amount of carbs through most of his prep.
Some competitors can run high carbs and low cals right up to a show. Others will benefit from a short little keto burst. Others I like to have the body still looking for carbs but basically keep their tank almost on empty. Yes it’s not fun, and here and there I’ll throw in a high refeed day (Brad had a little treat last Friday), but whe you’re this close to a show, nothing is really fun.
My delts never lacked really. They just lacked the capped look and I needed to bring up my rear delts a bit. My workout in the exact order is machine lateral raises, standing dumbbell raises, rear self raises on bench, dumbbell press, for 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps. It’s obvious why they lacked total shape: I was doing upper lower splits for far too long and just doing pressing variations and still married to the “just add weight to the bar and the size follows” mentality. I’m thoroughly convinced I would have more LBM by this point if it weren’t for that mentality.
I totally don’t want to sound like a wiseass but I’ve said over and over again, the diet was far higher in calories and there was carb rotation in the beginning. As said, it was actually easy in the first two or three months.
You didnt sound like a wiseass, im the one who should apologize for asking dumb questions to a man in dieting, lol im sorry man
and thank you so much for the info, again you look great
Lol, well, If “nutritional value” means vitamins and minerals, you’re probably not getting tons of them even from more traditional “clean” (I hate that term!) carb sources.
If, however, you consider “nutritional value” as containing much needed calories and carbs in addition to the mental perk of having a little treat then I’ll argue for PopTarts every time
Some people can’t get their head around the fact that all carb sources break down into the same sugar molecules at the end of the ride. Yeah we can talk preservatives and GMO’s and such, but in terms of macros, a PopTart vs a bowl of Oatmeal will both give you a decent amount of usable carbs (fiber being a side subject of course).
So true. Rice has minimal “nutritional” value but is obviously a staple “clean carb”. I think if the majority of carbs come from oreos and pop tarts and pizza, performance and physique will not be optimal even if macros all work out. But as @The_Mighty_Stu said, having a pop tart every now and then isn’t going to make a difference, and at certain points in the prep will probably be beneficial.
I agree with you Stu…but sadly I think it was simply a conflict of interests. He is the SE region manager for prosupps, so it’s like “don’t eat poptarts post-workout, drink this carb drink we created, it’s great!”
Just took it with a grain of salt like everything.
Hey! That depends! Brown rice has iron and lots of fiber , but how many bodybuilders eat brown rice? Haha. When I first started lifting I ate it like crazy actually, until I got hooked on Jasmin rice. That stuff is good. Micronutrients? Absolutely none lol.
Great job brother - I’m super proud of you. I know you’ve wanted to do this for a long time. As I told you on messenger, you’ve given this 110% and done everything right.
Eh, just for me personally I don’t eat brown rice for the fiber, I do like the taste and have been eating it a lot lately. A cup has like 3g fiber. Between the fibrous veggies and ezekiel products/dark seedy bread in the day, I don’t count brown rice as anything but simple carbs, but that’s just me. I also like the jasmine!
People tend to not see diet as a whole. How many times have we heard “iceberg lettuce has no nutrients.” Well, who is solely subsisting on lettuce? No one!
See I would think the only reason I would eat it now would be for the fiber. But like you said in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really make a huge difference.
Brick, just wanted to say that you guys have done some amazing work. As much as was said about your legs being monstrous, those guns are looking killer. Past couple shots of them have been awesome.
@SkyzykS Thank you! I’ve always been limbs dominant, even before working out. This leanness and training properly augmented them.
Again, thank you! I mean, the compliments and attention in this thread, it’s highly appreciated. It’s not that I’m an attention monger, but I never thought I’d look like this or gain the knowledge on training and nutrition that I have now.
And also, as said elsewhere, so many times, I went back and forth with this hobby, and it always seemed as if there would never be a time in life to take it this seriously. So this whole thing is meaningful to me, even if I am not setting the BB world on fire.
