Why do so many guys use the picture of another man as their avatars?
I get why people might cartoon characters, or something. But a lot of guys use as avatars the photos of various mixed martial artists, powerlifters, and bodybuilders.
What’s up with that?
Personally, it seems a little lame to use another man’s picture as one’s avatar. It’s kind of like saying: "I’m not my own man, so I’ll use the photo of someone else to ‘represent.’

Jagshemash! My name is Borat. Do you like my avatar? It represent me. High Five!
The way I always looked at it was that your avatar might represent something that you admite, appreciate, find interesting etc. If a forum poster has Ronnie Coleman as his avatar perhaps he represents excellence in bodybuilding to them, and that is something they admire or wish to achieve.
Either way, one of us is thinking way too deep. It’s a friggin’ avatar.

You both stupid. Ronnie colman has hundreds of pseudonames, and all these martial artists do too. Imagine if they used their real name; they couldnt start flame wars!
Mine is a man. All man. A real man. Me. Accepting the ‘Best Male Lifter’ medal at a major meet out west. How many of those have you moron’s got laying around your mother’s house?

That’s funny, I actually have a best-overall trophy at my mother’s house.
I can’t stand those guys who have some childish cartoon for an avatar.
I mean, what, are you guys 12 or something?
And that one guy with a mouse avatar?? What a loser!
I thought a combover was a perfect metaphor for an internet site where many people try to be something they are not and look pretty silly in the process. Besides, I thought it was funny.
(No it is not my actual head. I don’t have enough hair to comb over! )
I have an avatar, I’ve got a good one. I just can’t use it yet because I’m still awaiting completion of CaliforniaLaw’s approval process. It’s been months now, I guess its a never ending job minding everybody else’s business.

I couldn’t have said it better. Who honestly gives a shit? If there is anything we should focus on related to pictures, it should be that anyone who has a critique to give someone else should at least have had a picture somewhere on this site seen by many at one point in time to justify they even know what a gym looks like. That would cut down on 98% of the bullshit right there.

Frankly who cares? An Avatar is just that a Avatar. I am more interested in what a person has to say if it’s valid.[/quote]
Exactly. I’m terribly upset that CaliforniaLaw is highly disappointed in my choice of a 60x60 pixel arrangement that defines my existence, but I think I’ll stick with it out of spite.
