Wow, teeny tiny! Somewhere in the 135 range is my current goal. I figure once I’m down at that end of the spectrum, I can re-evaluate my goals from there. Unfortunately my body is now creeping down at a snail’s pace. Damn carbs!
I can remember weighing in at 140 when I was 16 when I was playing premier soccer. I was in good shape then, but definitely nowhere near as strong and muscular. I feel your pain with the elusiveness of those numbers we want to see! We work so hard, success should follow! You’re welcome to ramble any time.
I love the wall squat vid craze! So totally awesome. Nice job. How did you feel doing them? Did you feel all limber afterwards?
135 is pretty lean for 5’4" if you want to keep the muscle mass, no?
Love your curls girlie!
Friendly is cool regarding the FA. My one gym’s resident FA is sorta annoying though. I’ve posted about a couple of my interactions with her. She got all stupid one night when I was sharing the aisle with her to do farmer’ walks with 75’s (she was doing walking lunges with 20’s.) She made some comment like, “You can lift those? What are you gonna do with them?” The idea of grip strength didn’t compute for her. She wears those leather and mesh gloves. Black ones. And fake nails too.
Thanks, Main! You all motivate me to try new things!
Had done lactic acid the last two days, so I didn’t want to do it a third day in a row, but I carbed last night and didn’t want to “waste” it. So this is what I decided to do off the cuff:
Thursday
Rack pulls 135x8 185x3,1 (realized my grip seemed to suck more than I remembered, boooooo) → introduce straps
185x9 205x5 205x3,2 135x15
GMs 45x10 65x10 85x10 85x10
BB Hip thrusts 135x5 135x8 135x10 135x10
Hanging leg raise 7 8 8
Dips 8 7 7
Capt Chair 20 20 20
Tiger PUs 7 7 7
This was the first time I tried the BB hip thrusts, couldn’t figure out the logistics before. I think it might have been Frenchie (thanks!) that posted a video recently of crawling under the loaded bar that made me decide to try it that way. Unfortunately the way the Smith machine is, I couldn’t start that way, so I had to start with 45s on the bar to get it high enough for me to slide under! Of course I could ask for help, but that’s too much work. Anyway, I think I need to get used to them. I didn’t feel like it was the glute workout it should have been, but maybe that’s because I was focused on what I thought would be crazy bruises on my hips! So far nothing, though…
I’m not going to get bent out of shape about the rack pulls right now, since I haven’t done any heavy training in about 5 weeks; I’m actually fairly happy with them. Someone asked me today if I played soccer, guess the legs give it away! I passed a trainer on the sidewalk on my way to work who I had just talked to an hour earlier. He didn’t recognize me, funny enough. Isn’t it weird how you get so used to seeing people a certain way? Anyway, starting to ramble as it gets later… Tomorrow may be my last lactic acid workout, but I haven’t decided yet. Could be Saturday. Then: onward!

Thanks, Veggie! It was something different. Am I supposed to like them? haha It was a good stretch. Should probably do them sometime when I haven’t just had a carb load. Nothing feels very good after that!
I would imagine 135 would be pretty lean, but I’d like to get down and see what it looks like. If I don’t make it there, but I love how I look, I won’t sweat it. I definitely want to keep my muscle!
(FYI When I was little, I used to have old ladies come up to me in the store and ask if my curls were natural and tell me how they’d die to have my hair. Needless to say I hated my hair until I was in high school.)
I’ve read about your interactions with the FA lady, which contributes to my reservations in talking to her. Mine wears some kind of push-up bra and matching outfits. She’s got her tanner on, too. I haven’t paid enough attention to know what kind of weight she lifts, although she did set herself up right in front of me the other day. (I’m afraid to confess to you, Veg, that I do wear gloves! I think part of it is that sensory thing again…) I wonder if your FA is jealous or just clueless. I’m jealous of your grip strength!
Its cool to wear gloves. Keeps your hands softer. My hands are a wreck from working, so I just never saw the point for me. I do need to invest in some chalk though. I admit to wearing pushup bras to the gym. Keeps the girls comfy. Now we’re even.
Have to comment on crazy hip bruises. I got some sick ones from using a reverse hyper at coach’s gym. Looked like I was gang-raped!
Lanels - I’ve been pouring over the last few pages of your log. Getting caught up on all the protein powder flava. I’ve been a Low Carb Metabolic Drive person. I’ve tried some Whey at the health food store that tasted like vomit and that kind of scared me off.
I’m always impressed with your training over here! You have some serious stamina!
Oh, and I wear gloves too and I still have some big ol’ calluses from farmer’s walks.
Ok, Veg, so we’re even! haha Looks like some bruises are just coming in but def not as bad as I thought they might be. From time to time my bruising it worse, think it has to do with the lupus/meds. shrug Hopefully they won’t look like your scary ones! Ouch! (Btw, nice new avi! Hot mama!)
Hey PP, thanks! Grosssssss. There are some seriously disgusting tasting protein powders out there. I don’t see the point if you can get one that is nutritionally similar and tastes great! (Tbh, I generally stay away from “health food” stores.) I also need a lot of variety these days since I’m having 2-3 shakes a day. I try to use a different flavor for each one. Maybe I’ll try Metabolic Drive at some point, but I’m pretty happy with ON (also low carb). Out of curiosity, assuming you’re a low carb person, how often do you carb load? I’m sure you saw that MiM and I have been talking about how we dislike carbing up. I guess it also depends on how low “low carb” is for one person or another.
Glad you’re a glove girl, too. I see no reason to tear my hands up if I don’t have to. Although I do switch to straps on my rack pulls/dls and those give me terrible callouses. I’ll have to go back to see what kind of weight/distance you’re using on the farmers walks. Must be pretty serious if you’re getting callouses!
Yep it was Mainie with the Smith BB thrusts. That hottie, always finding ways to thrust a Smith.

Damn Straight
Seriously L - on the glute bridges I use a pussy pad. Only time I ever use them to prevent bruising.
bras = squishy sport ones and no gloves.
guess that makes me pretty prison dikey. specially if you include the baggy sweats. But I’m ok with it. I keep my treats for special occasions…
You want answers? I feel slightly uncomfortable saying any of this knowing that you have a man and all, but…
My hands are pretty rough and they do just fine. I’m quite sure your hands A) Are less rough, however often you might go gloveless, and B) Would feel much better on me than my own hands. That’s just a hand vs. hand comparison, obviously there would be other factors at play (<- yes that’s a sex pun).
As for rings, unless you have crazy rings or do crazy things with them I don’t see how they’d be a problem. Stretching my imagination I can’t say I can see any man I’ve ever known saying “Hold on Nikki, I’m going to need you to take those rings off before I let you get started.” (or any similar, more explicit phrase)
I hope this has cleared up any confusion you may have on the issue of callused hands on women (on men, as it were).
I don’t wear gloves - I hate the feel of them. I’m also proud of my calluses and my bloke has always maintained that I have amazing hands (in relation to, uh, handling him) so I don’t think discomfort is an issue.
Going back a page or so, I feel fucking awful after pasta but I do fine with rice and potatoes. A lot of people have issues with wheat and gluten foods even if they’re not full-blown coeliac. I try to avoid gluten foods where possible and generally feel better for it. On the occassions when I succumb to temptation I always feel crappy afterwards. Try cutting out wheat (pasta, bread, breakfast cereals etc) and see how you feel.
Thanks for the input Cal and Kris.
Re the ring: I had this ring that was a zig-zag design, and it used to pinch my finger at times. Me and my best friend were ahem and all of a sudden he screamed “OW!”
I guess it traumatized me for life and I don’t want to terrorize another guy lol
^^ Ahh, this is what I get for not looking at my log all weekend! hahahaha
I like to keep my hands soft, too. (I have a proclivity for focusing on a man’s hands, but I’m more concerned with nailbiting than callouses.) I do wear rings, but come to think of it, I think I have a tendency to take them off beforehand, just realized that.
Actually, I think I usually take all my jewelry off. Odd! (Though I did lose a pair of earrings in a car once…) This is going to make me sound like a major nerd, but during this conversation, I keep thinking of Of Mice and Men and the character that keeps a glove full of vaseline on one hand to ‘keep soft for his wife.’
And because I think of this song every time I hear ‘vaseline’…
Moving on…
Cal, thanks for the input. It doesn’t seem to make a difference for me, but I’ll give it another shot. At this point, there’s nothing I carb with now that I’d care that much about giving up.
I have three days of training to catch up with on posting! Have to do that later…
