L <3's Lifting

MiM, that is indeed the original. Lee’s version takes a large page from it and changes it a bit. His seems a little more forgiving on equipment used, which is mainly why I (we) will be using it vs. Mr. Poliquin’s.

Nikki: Hi back.

laugh Yes, this thinking was in the gym/about the gym. ‘Was’ being the key word at this point… you crazy kids. grin

Any of those programs are killer, yet, as Lee says, “well worth the pain and sacrifice”!

Kris, thanks for bringing the sex appeal to my thread.

Hi Lanels. Your lactic-acid training is so hardcore. I am a complete and total wimp as this would have me floored. Kudos to you and keep up the awesome work!

Muahaha I’m so amused right now
Between Lanels Frosty-sweet talkin’ me and Kris thinking about the Queens, which may or may not have been about the gym ;D

The ON proteins look yummy, but I wanna be a Gaspari girl for whatever reason… maybe just to touch Ava ;D

Chiming in on GVT and pp.

The most brutal thing about GVT, in my experience, is the timed rest periods. The first couple of sets feel light and you wanna go again too soon, but by the last few you are wishing that you could rest longer. And it is pretty common (if you use the right weight) to not get 10 reps on the last couple of sets. The short-term neural adaptation factor IS cool to experience first-hand. Happens for me on the 6th or 7th set. Bam. I feel re-charged and the set is easy. I do love GVT. Soon I will be doing again. Need to do some planning first.

I like Dymatize Elite XT. I’ve had the Fudge Brownie, the Rich Chocolate, and Vanilla. All are tasty. Yesterday I was complaining that I was bored with the Vanilla to my patient (who manages the local Vitamin Shoppe) and she told me just to put cocoa powder in it to make chocolate. Duh. I had it last night, with peanut butter too, and it was yummy!

Hey Whysper! Thanks

Nikki, I can’t help myself, hafta sweet talk a pretty lady. To be honest, I’ve never tried Gaspari, but I don’t blame you about Ava! haha

Hey Veg, thanks for the insight. I sometimes get that “recharge” in my last two sets when I’m doing the chest/back or quad/hams combos.

Haven’t tried the Dymatize either. Fudge brownie sounds tasty! You know, I probably wouldn’t have thought about putting the cocoa in the vanilla pp either. Although I do tend to put some into my Saturday shakes. (I always play around with them because I have the time on Saturday.) I never buy vanilla pp because I’ve never been that into vanilla flavoring. The closest I’ve come is my cookies n cream.

I haven’t ever used casein before, but I’m thinking about throwing that in for before bed. Anyone do this and have thoughts they’d like to share?

Energy felt a little low today, but I gave it what I had and got a pretty standard set of reps out. Actually was feeling pretty pumped by the time I finished legs. Probably because I was just happy to be alive. Also nice because today no one tried to jump in on any equipment or rack my weights or anything. Had one person who wanted to talk, but luckily I had enough time switching attachments to be polite and then get back to doing my thing.

On the protein front, increased my intake by about 50%. So far so good.

It ain’t Ava- but here’s a pic of your Frenchie with her team and Mr. Gaspari. I’ll see if I can’t get you one with Ava in a couple weeks. I think she’s supposed to be at our Vancouver trade show in April.

you’d make a hot kick ass gaspari girl. please to take your picturez?

L, I saw that ON had rocky road flavor. I know I said I don’t like ice cream, but rocky road is not ice cream, it’s a heavenly cloud. Yum.
I don’t take casein, sorry. The only benefit I see really is the flow of amino acids throughout the night, so your body doesn’t break down muscle, but (speaking as an aspiring BBer, I will be shot for saying this) I don’t drink it. Mainly because keeping muscle during my diet hasn’t been a problem. Protein and lift heavy. I’ve been golden in the fat loss-muscle maintenance area.
But of course it’s not a bad idea, so it’s just a matter if you want to.

Gah N, I’m so jealous!
You look gawgeous of course. And you’re like, right under Rich. Ah.
There’s not a damn person I won’t do on that team. From Flex to Trish, I’ll be in heaven.
Don’t forget me in a couple weeks when you see Ava heh heh

You… you think I’ll be a hot gaspari girl? blush <3

Ok L, hijack is complete.
Btw awesome workout, after lunges I’m happy to be alive too. That alone is an accomplishment.
Awesome protein intake, my hero.

cottage cheese before bed has the same effect, I think.

Good work L!

that cookies and cream flavor sounds ridiculously good…and rocky road??! faints

Hey L! Nice training girl!

GVT sounds so hardcore to me. I’d be interested in hearing more about it.

Great job pushing through the low energy

Nikki, I have had the Rocky Road and it is indeed delicious! Hmm… maybe I’ll get that one next.

MiM, unfortunately I don’t like cottage cheese. At all. I choke down plenty of things I don’t like, but it’s a texture thing for me.

Hey Maschy! Thanks! Kris and MiM have been posting some good articles on GVT in this thread. I think Veg is planning on doing some soon. As I said, what I do is a sort of variation on GVT, so I can only speak to what I do.

There were two guys at my gym doing something sort of like what you do Lanels. They would do sets of 100, 75, 50, 25 for (on different days) bench, row, leg press, and I think shoulder press. Dunno if they did any assistance or not; they were just always doing that when I was in there. By sets I mean they would do 100 reps, taking breaks if needed.

laugh I wouldn’t say I brought sex appeal to the thread, unless by that you mean you and Nikki (and MiM) bantering based off what I said. I’m just a babe in the woods/gym, impressed by hard work.

Edit: Cookies and Cream protein powder?! Omai…

Were they only doing one exercise per day? The important question here is whether they were dripping sweat and if either looked like they might pass out.

I have to say, though I do like the cookies and cream, but it’s not my favorite. It’s quite sweet, and even though I’m a sweets person, I need a break from it every so often. Hence I keep 4 flavors in the rotation.

Edit: That, and I now drink more protein shakes than I ever thought I would willingly knock back in a day.

I never tried the ON cookies and cream, only Gaspari’s. Their own is thick though, and it’s alright with water. Which is why after the gym, I buy either regular or choc milk to put in it. Heh heh.

Gaspari needs to step their game up with their flavors, or else I’m going to cheat on them with ON.

Ooh I have a pretty good recipe for CC L. I hate CC too, but the recipe is good. It’s a PB and jelly crepe. Get egg whites and PP, mix it together and put in hot skillet. Cook on both sides. While that’s cooking, get some CC, mix in PP and jelly in it, and put that filling in the crepe and roll up. It’s quite yummy, and it has a lot of slow-digesting amino acids to fuel your muscles during the night. Especially if the powder you use is casein.
And I completely hate CC too. When I eat it buy itself, I don’t even chew, just swallow it haha

Hmmm… I feel tricked by how good that sounds, Nikki! haha I just keep thinking of that chunky texture. blech! I might try it eventually. Super low carbs right now. No pb and def no jelly. But I’ll save it with my recipes!

Ok, down to business:

Friday

(Was going to ss my floor presses with lat pulls but both lat pull stations were taken. Sort of. One trainer/trainee pair was doing a circuit and I knew they’d be back, I asked to check. While they did claim use of the lat pull station, I let it slide since the trainer congratulated me on my work and told me that lifting heavy was producing some good results. I’ll take it! Also, the trainee is a woman who seems to want to get serious about lifting, so I don’t want to discourage that. Anyway, moving on…)

I’m toying with the idea of doing some light arms and abs tonight since I don’t have any plans. Gym should be quiet on a Friday night. Guess I’ll see how I feel in about an hour when the after-work crowd is leaving.

So, ended up going to the gym. Did mostly arms work, but I did mess around a little with some random stuff since there were only 3 other people in the weight room. Worked on my DL form, did some KB swings, some push-up variations after reading MiM’s log… And then I was feeling inspired (or just crazy) and walked over to the high school nearby and ran some sprints on their track. FYI, it’s quite cold in MD right now. However, I have to say, other than soreness in my hamstrings, it felt good. I think this could be something I do a lot this summer, especially when I’m not going H.A.M. every morning.

We’ll see where my motivation is at tomorrow morning. Maybe I’ll cut the usual 2 hr sesh short. Pretty sure Sunday will be a rest day.

On a random side note, I’ve been having the weirdest cold symptoms at night before bed and in the morning when I wake up. I seem to be fine during the day. So far I’ve ruled out it being related to whether I sleep with my windows open, whether I’m laying down or sitting/standing, whether I have a protein shake before bed, or anything else I may have recently changed in my room. I’m about to start playing with my supplements, but none of them should have those kinds of side effects (sore throat, congestion, cough). Odd. Although I shouldn’t be surprised, I always have weird health problems!

Oh, and one more thing. Heard at work today I may be headed back to Africa. Not sure how long it would be, but hopefully just a couple weeks. No weight room where I’d be going… I took the month of November off from lifting for the same reason, and although I came back lighter, I was also weaker. I don’t want to have to interrupt my training. But it’s all just speculation until a government approval comes through. Have to remind myself there’s no use worrying.

Ha, just a Friday night at the gym, you know, training and stuff. And then sprinting in the cold; I like it.

Hope your cold like symptoms either reveal their source or just move along. I’d alllmost rather just be sick than feel like I’m about to be for days on end.

Oooh, Africa! Never been, but heard good things. You’ll just have to go bodyweight/improvised equipment crazy. You can come back lighter, ‘crazy ripped’ as they say, and highly motivated to get back to the weights. nod

Could the cold symptoms be something like dust mite allergy? Something like that would explain why they strike at night but you’re fine when you’re awake.
