I have been quietly monitoring this thread. I am not a body builder just an average guy, 48 years old, who like an average American became overweight --mostly due to typical diet.
Recently I decided I have had enough and began a blending diet of veggies and fruits and mostly whole plants, hard for a meat and potatoes guy. I have lost over 20 lbs in less than a month, doing intense cardio 4x/week as well.
I am now interested in getting leaner and lowering my body fat %age and increasing muscle mass to something closer to what a 25 year old sports. This is my first login interaction and I am not sure if this is a private message or not, so I will not put too much out there on this message except to say I am very interested in all of your knowledge of the hormonal issues and am both learning from you and from science papers when I can find them.
I am a physician, but sort of “retired” and realizing I am going to want to get back into patient care for my own mental/spiritual satisfaction. I am at apoint in my life where I am financially secure and secure from the medical board gestapo. I could be a good resource for those needing some legitimate TRT done at a higher and better level than seems to exist commonly “out there.”
Just wanted to touch base and perhaps start a dialogue if you’re interested.thanks!
There is no private message service here. Was once.
I had one doc in Florida switch streams to do this. He liked what I was presenting in these forums and he went from there.
Do not neglect proteins.
Ensure intake of iodine and selenium for you and family.
Eat healthy fats, extreme low fat diets are harmful.
Vit-D3 helps proper gene expression.
Extreme dieting and over training can harm your hormones.
Evaluate your overall thyroid function by checking oral body temperatures as per the thyroid basics sticky. Thyroid hormone fT3 is what gets the job done and it regulates mitochondrial activity, the source of ATP which is the universal currency of cellular energy. This is part of the body’s temperature control loop. This can get messed up if you are iodine deficient. In many countries, you need to be using iodized salt. Other countries add iodine to dairy or bread.
KSman is simply a regular member on this site. Nothing more other than highly active.
I can be a bit abrupt in my replies and recommendations. I have a lot of ground to cover as this forum has become much more active in the last two years. I can’t follow threads that go deep over time. You need to respond to all of my points and requests as soon as possible before you fall off of my radar. The worse problems are guys who ignore issues re thyroid, body temperatures, history of iodized salt. Please do not piss people off saying that lab results are normal, we need lab number and ranges.
The value that you get out of this process and forum depends on your effort and performance. The bulk of your learning is reading/studying the suggested stickies.
Good advice. I am primarily in Colorado but often in Texas. I am interested in doing a more intimate house call service for general acute medical care (back ground is EM) but also setting up a small service for weight loss and TRT and hormone optimization if I find the results and research interesting and inspiring enough.
I have some private questions about where TRT becomes a treatment of a “disease” or scarcity versus optimization and when it becomes the “all dreaded” AAS steroid abuse-- I jest but basically that is not a science question but an ethical and social one which is changing rapidly as big pharma sinks their teeth into it. Not sure if there is a way to PM but if you are open to it post an idea. If it’s not against the rules you could email me at sjmkdm@gmail.com
Questions about particular labs and other pitfalls I would rather not post publicly…
There has been a lot of voodoo about testosterone in sports that also drove waves of legislation and criminalization. The use in body building is most always rooted in ignorance and dangerous practices, so there is a social pressure to suppress those activities. The affect was that many doctors were living in fear, but the waves of new [expensive] testosterone products has resolved a lot of that.
The objectives of TRT and HRT in general is to restore youthful levels and balances of hormones to restore vitality and quality of life. Hormones of interest are sex hormones, thyroid and cortisol as the big three. Other blood work needs to be studied as well as other things as the objective must be inclusive of all health factors.
GH needs to be in the mix where needed and where the patient is willing and able to pay the cost or insurance covers.
Many of the accepted problems of aging are actually hormone related and reversible.
Quality of life is everything. What else is there?
The main problem with TRT has been the doctors. [insert rant]
