Main point is that inability to absorb transdermals is classic for hypothyroidism. What are your waking body temps and during the day. Thyroid hormones control body temp. If body temps are not normal, one has a degree of functional hypothyroidism, no matter what the labs indicate.
Your cortisol appears to be low, that can increase rT3 which blocks what fT3 you have. Test that too.
I will start doing body temps soon. I had to obtain a thermometer.
Test for rt3?
The low absorbtion was why I wanted to switch to injections.
Also I know i posted this earlier but I have done some reading on various studies: Intramuscular Testosterone Undecanoate. From the studies you have a loading period and then an injection every 4months about, varies depending on person, and T levels peak and trough remain very level. Also the estradiol, SHBP, DHEA, levels also remain level. I am not sure though if the FDA has approved this in the US I am unable to determine this.
injections will put additional demands on your adrenals which if not at 100% will be further strained which could cause additional issues with your thyroid function.
The doc got a cortisol test so hopefully that will show good adrenal function. I am just happy I am off androgel. The injections are easy and I do not have to worry about being a poor absorber of gel because of my hypothyroid.
So i am doing T injections 40mg 2 times per week. Mon and thus. And i get a big crash in energy/drive starting sun night adn into monday until the injection kicks in. Same thing wed night into thus. ANythoughts on this. Levels are up to 840ng.dl which was taken on a wed which should be the low day. Anythoughts on why this happens or if anyone else has had this?
ALso just a general update been liking the shots. When they are working it makes me feel so much better. Still trying to get on dessicated thyroid but i wont be seeing the doc until Oct. Because of my schedule and his schedule.
Ask your doc to split up injections EOD (which would put you at 80mg every 8 days), that should help with the peaks and valleys.
Did you ever get your thyroid sorted out (test RT3)?
If you aren’t fatigued and your body temps are fine (97.5 at waking, average 98.6 at 3/6/9hours after waking) then your thyroid is probably ok. Getting cold and having an inability to put on weight are two other hypothyroid symtoms.
I have not got my thyroid sorted put. This is my next major thing to do. I am happy that I am finally on injections and the doctor does not mind when I inject so I can start doing eod injections. I didn’t think I would be getting that large or peak and valley. Its a very noticeable difference in energy and drive.to do anything. Seems weird to me that splitting up the dose will help that much I would think it would end up making me have a nit less energy/drive all the time. But wjat do iI know
Any other good sites with info on dessicated thyroid so i can convince my doc to get me on it? (other than stopthethyroidmadness).I am going to see doc today so any help would be great
yes, T4 should already be higher, and yes, you should feel the effects of the T3 (depending on the state of your RT3).
how long before the show on tests depends on all of the interactions between T4 conversion to T3, the rate of RT3 clearing your system, and the ability of your adrenals and other systems to keep up with new demands… so there is no way to know for sure… that is why doctors just say “well, why don’t you come back in 3-6 months for a new set of tests”.
personally, I try to go off symptoms/issues and then use the tests for simple confirmation. If I was feeling horrible after 30 days, I would either get the doc to change my medication or get new tests at that time to confirm where things stand exactly.

If going from a T4 to a dessicated wouldnt T4 levels already be higher and it would be the faster acting T3 that you would feel/see on labs?
Thanks for stopping in PureChance always like your insight into these issues.[/quote]
I have always been told to wait 8 weeks for levels to stabilize when changing dosages or medication.
I was also on t4 meds only at 100mcg daily. But have had ft4 levels above range. Then convinced doctor to try t3. Currently on 90mcg t4 and 10mcg t3. This has made a huge change in my tsh numbers down to 0.5 now. Looking for a new endo since I want to rule out hyperthyroidism because of good levels of ft3 and ft4 before starting any meds while tsh at 8.3.
When you have hashi’s not uncommon to swing between hypo and hyper. That is why I want to get TSI tested to rule this out.
How long does it take for the effects of T3/T4 Combo or dessicated to kick in and start feeling better? I have heard/read both fast and slow. Just wondering if anyone could share experiences?
Is it a build up effect? I would imagine with the short T3 half life it shouldn’t take too long.
isn’t it 4 weeks for T4, and just a couple of hours for T3… but depending on your RT3 levels, it could take awhile for you to feel the effect of the T3.
Purechance: thanks for stopping in. That is what i have read. So it would take longer if Rt3 is higher for most of that to be displaced by the new T3?
Also does anyone have advice for getting the doc to perscribe a AI? my estrogen is in the 40’s and i want it in the low 20’s but he thinks thats ok to be in the 40s because thats in the middle of the range? I have no idea how to convince him. T levels are in the 900’s
