I must be the only person who enjoyed the Ang Lee version of the Hulk. The character development was great and the action scenes were well done, IMO. The only drawback was that the Hulk didn’t appear until about 47min into the movie. Also the lack of a “true” enemy worthy of the Hulk. I honestly would much rather see the “Maestro” Story line or the Banner seperated Hulk fuck shit up until the avengers stop him.

I agree with you, the first movie wasn’t a waste and, if looked at in the way it was meant, it was decent. However, those same faults you listed are the same ones everyone else noticed as well. The movie was SLOW paced. There was no clear enemy until damn near the end. The action scenes with the mutant dogs were just overly done, overly complicated and overly uninteresting. His CGI clothing, while in line with the early comic version “purple pants”, seemed way too cartoonish for a movie like that.
It just failed at seeming realistic which, amazingly enough, is what seems to sell most of these comic book movies…some attempt at realism to make the characters more believable.

That seems to be the key for popular comic book adaptations, being able to make it seem feasible. Look at Batman Begins, look at Iron Man. They seemed like they could actually happen, if not now then in the near future.
Darker and more gritty films ftw.
After reading y’all’s reviews of Iron Man, and at the insistence of my brother whose favorite comic book character happens to be Iron Man, I saw the movie.
It was good. Entertaining. Visually pleasing and plausible.
I preferred Batman Begins. I feel it had greater character and plot development than did Iron Man.
Don’t get me wrong, Iron Man was good. However, compared to Batman and the X-Men movies, Iron Man focused more heavily on visuals and action than on story line. I like a good story.
I’m really looking forward to Batman 2, as well as the rest of the upcoming Marvel movies.
In lieu of that… any word on the next Transformers movie? The first one could’ve been so much better…

Well, all I know so far is that the release date is set for June 26th, 2009. Spielberg and Bay are returning, as is most of the original cast from the first film. Soundwave and Ravage are supposed to be in it this time. I had heard there were plans for the Constructicons and the Dinobots, but I haven’t heard anything confirmed about that.
There was a rumor that Jonah Hill was going to be in it, but that got shut down pretty quickly.
And for the record, the first Transformers was pretty freakin’ awesome!

They said they were going to try and experiment with mass shifting (properly). And they were going to make a distinction between the AllSpark and the Creation Matrix.
Oh man, I’m a nerd.

I’m liking the idea of Soundwave and Ravage. The first one killed off a lot of Decepticons, so they needed to bring in more. I wonder if they’ll add any Autobots? There are still a lot of major characters to introduce.
I agree that the first Transformers was very enjoyable. I would’ve preferred more character development of the specific transformers, though. I also prefer the (i believe, original) idea that humans are incapable of defending themselves against Decepticon attack and, therefore, need Autobot protection.

Good. I was actually kinda bugged by the lack of distinction between the AllSpark and the Creation Matrix in the movie.
This thread is sort of a “Nerds of T-Nation, Unite!” thread, isn’t it?
I was also slightly bugged they killed off Megatron so quickly, especially without really showcasing his and Starscream’s rivalry. I eagerly await the next installment, though.

Yeah, I believe the AllSpark gives life, and the Creation Matrix gives them a “soul” or sorts. They make their own choice to be good or evil.
And I hear rumors that Megatron may come back… via Soundwave…

I was thinking the same before I clicked on thread…I think Marvel taking helm of their franchises is paying off…Incredible Hulk looks to help us forget Ang Lee’s version.
And to make you feel better, Sony bought back the rights to film more Spider-Man.
YAY, MORE EMO SPIDER-MAN!!!
I was hoping they’d lay off Spidey and the X franchise for a little bit to focus on the other parts of the Marvel U. A true Silver Surfer movie, maybe a Thing solo film, redo Daredevil(like the directors cut), some Powerman and Iron Fist, Ghost Rider(Dan Ketch style)

Power Man needs Iron Fist to carry his lame ass!

Please. Luke Cage can knock out Iron Fist…with either of his fists.

He is too musclebound. All Iron Fist would have to do is go up a flight of stairs.

Huh, would Soundwave be resurrecting Megatron, or would Soundwave be a Megatron reincarnated, ala Megatron/Galvatron n the Transformers movie? We wonders, yes, we wonders.
I’d prefer it if they kept Soundwave as a distinct entity. He played a pivotal role in his own right. In fact, I’d heard a rumor that Soundwave was created for the first movie, but they couldn’t fit him in properly.
Auto-Bots Inferior! Decepticons Superior!

Last I checked, he is his own entity. He resurrects Megatron.
And yes, they did have plans for Soundwave in the first movie, along with Ravage, but Bay figured that mass-shifting would be cheating. Then he did it with the AllSpark.
Go figure.

Suh-weet. Soundwave is one of my favorite Decepticons and resurrecting Megatron would clear up a problem I had with the first movie’s plot. I’m already looking forward to Transformers 2, which I’ve read is dated for a summer '09 release.

Keeping in mind that my knowledge comes from the first leaked script, which is likely to be either fake or will be completely revised.

There are some pretty good blogs out there. Michael Bay updates his from time to time and there’s another Transformers 2 blog that already has some set pictures up (can’t find the link right now). That’s where I’ve been getting most of my updates.
The June 26th date is pretty much confirmed though.
