Just Got My Wisdom Teeth Out...

The process of getting them taken out was the easy part. I had no clue how painfull it would be after. The dentist did not prescibe me any painkillers. When I got home and the needle wore out, all’s I can say is holy fuckin shit did it ever hurt. So I went back to his office kinda pissed and got some pain killers. I forget what they were but they didn’t do the job and there weren’t enough either. They were to be taken every 4 hours and only seemes to work for 2 or so. Made me very sleepy, couldn’t do shit for a good 5 days and could only consume shakes. Worst part was I couldn’t smoke no refer either because apparantly they reduce the effects of the meds. All in all it took me a while to feel myself again and hope the process is much smoother for you.

Peace.

Hi Guys, I was a dental assistant for 22 yrs and assisted PLENTY of 3rd molar extractions(both surgical and non-surgical.)Ice is best on side of the face that has the swelling for the first 2 days then after that. Moist heat will be your best bet. Yes, you should have said something to your dentist about not feeling enough anesthetic.

No wonder everybody hates the dentist so much. If the Percocet did not help wih your pain, my guess is you developed or are developing dry sockets. That is one painful condition to suffer with. Do you have sutures that need to be removed? My advice to you is… if you are still hurting go back to the dentist for a post op ck and make sure you don’t have a dry socket. That’s the hole where the tooth was extracted and instead of it filling up and healing, it did not. Most commonly this is caused by using straw to drink your liquids and /or smoking. Anything that causes suction in your mouth. Hope this helps and I hope you are feeling better now.

Yeah that sucks, I remember my dentist taking his time and doing my extractions 3 weeks apart (side to side) this way I could actually EAT something while it healed…

quick tip: if it bleeds a bit, try putting a tea bag in there, the tea help to coagulate.

It is the tannins in the tea that help with the healing of the surgical sites. Awesome your dentist extracted two at a time(U&L) I’m assuming and it sounds like it worked well for you. I 've found in my experience that most patients don’t want to go through ALL that twice, that is why most patients opt to go to a oral surgeon or a general dentist for all four.
Yes, tea bags are great in promoting healing of extraction sites.

Just got home from having the wisdom teeth out. It went awesome. They gave me nitris oxide the entire time, and one strong ass shot of anastesia (sp?). Then, I wake up at home. It went very smooth, took 45 minutes and I have a buttload of vicodin now. I’m thinking I’ll be back in the gym in a few days though.

I had mine out a decade ago, and they didn’t offer all this nitrous weenie garbage :stuck_out_tongue: I got a novacaine shot in each facial nerve. A little incision, a tiny little prybar, and one extended SCHLOOOOP sound later, each came out.

I was off the vicodin in twelve hours, and eating (though carfully) the next morning normally. Everybody reacts differently, though. If you’re in that much pain, I’d go back to the dentist.

I think (maybe someone with a medical background will correct me) tylenol-3 has a larger potential for liver damage from overdosing the acetominophen than the codeine. I believe the safe limit is 2.4g/day, so four tylenol 800s (which is what t-3 is dosed at, I think).

Edit: err… how 'bout three. I can do math.

Well the description is pretty accurate, a bit graphic but basically that is how it is done in a general dentist’s office. As far as the novocaine goes. the actual drug Novocaine has no been usd since the 60’s but that is how the general public describes as getting a shot. What you probably acually was injected with depending on your med history was Lidocaine hypochloride with epi (epinephrine) or Mepivicaine or Carbocaine , both w/o the epi). But hey, whenever someone says "I got a shot of novocaine, they definitely no what you are talking about. The dentist.
LOL!

I have had root canals for three different teeth, and more cavities than a typical small city. But I have never had any problems with my wisdom teeth. They seem to be among the best teeth in my mouth.
