I have a hard time believing 20 years as a linebacker in the NFL would have left no mark on his brain, and reading that article the only direct quote from the autopsy report was that his body showed “no pre-existing natural disease.” Would brain damage suffered from playing football be classified as a pre-existing natural disease in this context? I’m not a doctor, have no formal medical training, blah blah blah, so I don’t know.
I don’t believe for a second that playing football by default causes brain damage. Accidents while playing football yes, but not just the sport.
lol

So you think lifting heavy weights, training to a high standard AND on top of that you play a high contact sport which can floor you wont cause any significant underlying damage?

Physios have a field day with weightlifters and they are looked after well.

I would hazard a guess that sports such as Rugby and American Football have bigger, broader physical problems as a result of the very nature of the sport.

You do not bang your head against a wall and expect nothing in return.

Whatever someones external situation is it doesn’t change how they may be feeling on the inside… He may have had it made but if he was suffering a serious mood disorder and did not seek proper help it would not matter how rich, famous, whatever else the person is… That stuff doesn’t do anything for a persons actual well being if anything its dangerous… Money is functional and fame leads to self delusion if the person relies on it for their sense of self… Lots of famous people have attempted suicide and suffer from serious mental challenges… On another note I am really wondering if the head injuries really did have anything to do with this or not… As well as the drugs he was using Ambien withdrawal can be pretty serious…

Your correction stands corrected.

Lol. I was tempted to post this link in the original Junior Seau thread where a couple people lambasted me for jumping to the conclusion that he killed himself due to CTE. But then I thought, “why take any joy in being right about why someone killed himself? If only this one time, try to show some class when proven right.”

The thing is, the media has been saying he had no damage to his brain. That is the only thing that I heard, which I did not believe, until you posted that article. I suspect the NFL higher ups were trying to figure out the best way to present the information without demonizing the negative effects of being paid millions of dollars.

Wait… So what you’re telling me is that 30+ years of playing football (20 of which are in the NFL) where your job is to smash people while leading with your head will causes damage to the brain?

Well no kidding.

But…but they are wearing helmets…

Well, I just revisited the original Junior Seau thread and I forgot about that fucking smug bastard, Push. It was HIM who was getting on people for speculating that Seau committed suicide due to CTE. The writing was on the wall back then and this only proves it. I wish he would come in and visit this thread.
