I left the UK military because it’s all a vast lie, it’s all for OIL (full fucking stop), everyone is dying because of the shit you fill your car with. Anyone that thinks different is niave and stupid. Your military may have the highest amounts of integrety, spirit blah blah blah, so what, who cares, Bush doesn’t.

What regmiment ?
The USMC are pretty good, in my experience they are not a bunch of arseholes like Royal Marines and are very respectful of British Squaddies.
Our Marines might be this and that but the selection can be tighter as the overall force is smaller, the US needs a large fighting Marine force. Also the US have the best equipment, experience and numbers.
We should have some of their gear even and get rid of the SA80. You got lads in Iraq using AK’s because the SA80 is a fucking cockroach. They should have gone from the SLR to the M16 and CAR-15, although some UK regiments used these anyway.

Listen up, sonny. You are entitled to your opinion and are technically old enough to make your own decisions, but you are seriously misguided. Believe me, you are not as smart as you think. EVERY 18 year old thinks he has it figured out and everyone else is dumb.

K, I realize this and yeah thats exactly how I think are you telling me this to feel better about yourself? Because you’ve been saying that I think everyone is dumb a few times now. And this is not true everyone holds their own views and beliefs, mine just happen to be different.
is it in your nature?
Ok grandpa, we’re definately not going to see eye to eye here. Because we’re two different generations here I suppose. Self-serving? I put some cents in everytime I see a cancer fund. I think its hard to be a lazy ass if your an avid tnation reader
Ill stop here though because what I’m saying I realize is not what your going to take in, the marine corp along with America is your life.
Thank god you brought this up, I acaully do have an idea a very good one at that. God bless our forefathers and the great men that came with them. But recently they’ve all been shat on
Cool story, this means most hate us even more so now and infact are probably born hating Americans, cool thats great to hear.
Infact my grandmother is a geneologist and she found that our blood line connects in someway with George W, even Kenny Rogers! oh grandma !

Hitler was their leader and by god he was a German a true German that respresented all of them…
Dude, Hitler was Austrian.

Dude true, he was born in Austria but had visions of a better Germany from a young age he came to even be the Chancellor of Germany later in his years. He did still represent them strongly
Hey guys, I’m not here to chime in on the Armed Forces, but rather to respond to SSN and PGJ’s rather heated debate.
As just a little background, I do not subscribe entirely to either viewpoint.
Here’s how I see it:
Yes, the US does do some dastardly things. We supported the Taliban when we were fighting the USSR, yes we supported Saddam when we perceived Iran to be a bigger threat. We did some things to Japanese people during WWII. The list goes on. Yes, it is probably no secret that we went into Iraq for oil.
Yes the public is probably being mislead.
That was the kind of “Liberal” rant of this post
Now here comes the “Conservative” part:
So why does the US government mislead people?
Look at it this way: the public won’t stand for us fighting wars for “oil money” or to “support coporations”, but will for “freedom” and “national security” blah blah.
Now look at it from the big picture. How does controlling oil production NOT serve national security? If a foreign country has your economy by the balls, it is a wise national security move to loosen that death grip, at least until we develop alternate sources of energy (fusion maybe?).
Also, what is freedom anyways? While my liberal side does feel that many of our constitutional rights are being trampled upon in the name of national security, consider that capitalism is an integral part of our “freedom”. Capitalism is the freedom of choice for what you buy. Sure it is an economic system, but realize that communism was its antagonist economic system.
Never forget that the US was founded by the ELITE, aristocrats, not the working class.
What is America without its economy? And what is its economy but mainly the big corporations?
And if the corporations are such an integral part of this country, why is it such an “evil” thing to defend the financial interests of this country? War drives the economy, which then in turn allows us to have a better war machine and better security.
To summarize:
LIBERALS: wake the fuck up, your lifestyle is supported by the very wars and corporations which you attack.
CONSERVATIVES: wake the fuck up and defend our constitutional freedoms in the Senate and in Congress. And try to tell the truth about things more (although I know it’s a hard choice to make).
I was in the Royal Air Force during the period including the first Gulf War (desert storm - the one that actually had a purpose) and for my two pence worth I’d always suggest either the Air Force or the Navy. With these arms of the military you’re usually a tradesman first and a fighter second. (Hell, we used to have the RAF Regiment and a garrison a grunts to protect us out there!)
The gift with having a trade first is when you come out of the service. I know work in IT for a city bank and am making way over six figures. All that said, I’ve not long ago discovered that all the money in the world doesn’t make you happy.
At the end of the day, whatever you pick it’ll be the best thing you can ever do. For yourself or your country. Civvies just don’t understand. I was on the tube (underground train) last year and an old boy from WW2 was on with his daughter and he was telling her how he was just a coward really. I told him that when it comes to it we’re all cowards. It’s only for our friends that we do it because when the sh*t starts flying that’s all you’ve got. When they say the military is mother your father, your sister you brother they aren’t kidding. That’s the stuff that civvies will never ever get.
Make your choice, be your best and hold your head up high. Very few serve Queen and Country (or just country!) Be The Best!
I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it on here or not, but the Air Force has a special forces called PJ’s or Pararescue. They are paramedics, but I’m pretty sure they get to use their “bad-ass” skills too.
I know some guys don’t give the Air Force much respect, but these guys go through some of the exact same training as SEALS, Green Berets, Rangers, etc. They have to complete two years of training involving different schools.
I work with a guy that is a former PJ. He said they have a Hell Week too. So I guess SEALS don’t have a monopoly on that one.
But if you decide to go Army SF, I think you’re language skills will give you an advantage, as someone else pointed out.
I am a MA in the Navy, who has served TAD time in Iraq.
Reading through this thread, my first instinct is to argue with ssn0, but instead I have been reminded of what the purpose of the military is- to protect and serve individuals and their rights. And to know that people like ssn0 can make asinine comments brings me great pleasure, reflecting the effectiveness of my organization and its abilities to achieve its goals.
Thank you, ssn0, and please continue to argue your ideologies, no matter how misconstrued they are.
