Join the Marines

Not that your job will, but when I enlisted I had to get a security clearance. My recruiter even showed me, it doesn’t matter if it’s a juvenile record. I had shit on my juvenile record that he could see that the court even told me was “erased.” Why not the Army? Air Force has open air contracts, Army doesn’t. Just saying.

Also my buddy that just left for the Marines had his job changed and he couldn’t do anything about it, so really understand what you are getting in to.
You don’t understand why someone would choose the Marine Corps over another service?
I meant more than anything, whatever service you join if you do, just make sure you are getting what you want in the contract and make sure that it’s there before you sign.

as far as i know the marines are way over their recruiting numbers which means they are even more selective. and yes there are scumbags in the marines. when we went from 177,000 to 202,000 or whatever it was recruiters could bring in just about anyone. now we are at like 206,000 or so. 15 year retirments are back. bonuses are gone. people getting denied reenlistments because we have to many personel.

oh and if you got to many tats for get about it. we now got a very strict tattoo policy. so do youself a favor. go talk to the army. or the airforce or navy. get a job you want. get a sign up bonus. because your job is not guarentted (spelling) in the Corps. i didnt get the job i wanted but i wouldnt trade this job for any other in the Corps. i operate heavy engineer equipment by the way. dozers, cranes, graders, forklifts.

anyway. as others here have posted. square your ass away BEFORE you get to boot camp. dont be a turd once you get out of bootcamp and join the operational forces either. if your going to do this do it for the right reasons. not just because you screwed up your life and now you think your stuck and you want to get away from your dumbass friends back home because you dont have the balls to cut them out of your life on your own or dont have the balls to be like “hey dudes, this shit is dumb lets go do something constructive with our time instead of being little shit heads and wanna be thugs and convicts” so man up.

grow a set up balls. fix your life and if you still want to join then join but do it for the right reasons. hell finish college and go wear shiny shit on your collar (be an officer) if your going just to get away from yoru home town do it that way. they make more money and live better anyway. personally i love being enlisted but that because the enlisted guys get shit done and do all the work. think about it. and good luck man

Why would The Marines want this guy?

MAYBE the Army, but The Marines?

ya know i cant believe that this thread has actually recieved this much attention. OP needs to fix his life and then look at the army or something bacause your right professor x, from what i have seen so far, we do not need ANOTHER guy like this. (although i do not personally know him.) we already have enough of them and we are doing our best to get rid of them. but hey, if he can fix himself then why not? i really dont think the Marine recruiters could get him in right now anyway. but hell, what do i know? i dont run the show, i just work here. i guess he has the same rights as anyone else to give it a shot.

Hey now…easy with the army. OP, several things to consider. Firstly, if the DUI sticks or any of the rest you won’t be getting in any time soon. Due to the bonuses over the past few years (which are done for now) the branches are doing pretty well. If you do manage to secure a spot though, you might want to consider what you want to do for a job. You can go the grunt route and see some tours and probably some combat in which case marines or army or you can look for something that has a paying job in the civilian world in which case potentially any of the branches. I would ask advice from someone who already has the job you want…not just a branch. Experiences can vary greatly depending on the job you occupy.

Personally I don’t think the marines or the army will fix you. It does explain the quality of privates we’ve been receiving latley. If you’re hurting for money then I would suggest finding an actual job. I worked 8pm-4am 40hrs. a week while taking 15 credits at one point. It sucked, but I did it. Also, if you move out from your parents and aren’t claimed as a dependent I’m sure that with an income less than 20k per year you can qualify for a ton of tuition assistance.

I hope you get your life in order, but until you decide that that responsiblity lies with you and not an organization you’re only doomed to repeat your mistakes.

NM, just read your other post about painkillers for your back and getting doctors to tell you how to score oxycodone. Sounds like someone is back to dealing.

No. The Army does not want him. Not even maybe.

I’m considering joining the Marines. I’m 18 in 4 months. Anybody here a Marine? How is/was your experience?

My plan is to get in there for 4 years and get my shit together and come out with some money saved, future education paid for, and some basic respect amongst society.
Thoughts?
Thank you,
Nothing could be more noble than defending the greatest and most moral country in the history of the world.

Obama and his fellow scum are gonna crash it and it’ll be up to our military to return America to that special place in the world, before altruism and the lib scum fucked it all up.

Do a good job and rescue the country from the Clintons, Gores, and Obama scum animals.

lol FTW

Artem, if you think the Marines will “square you away” or “fix you”, you’re delusional. I have plenty of shitbag acquaintances (not friends) that are in the USMC…they were scumbags before, and they’re still scumbags now. There’s nothing magical about boot camp that will transform your values/ethics (or lack thereof). Stop pretending you need to find something to fix you, and start fixing your damn self before you even consider working for the government.
People will occasionally get “squared away” in the military, but it’s unusual and it’s unlikely in this case. There have always been plenty of Artems in the service to keep the MPs busy.

DB

As an enlisted member of the Marine Corps albeit on the Reserve side in the LAR community; I’ve found my experience in the Marine Corps to be somewhat different than what I imagined in my little 19 year old head.

Here’s the secrets no one tells you:

The Marine Corps works like any organization does on the planet and no one is different or better. Recruiters and Marines alike will bullshit you about how nasty civilians are, but fail to mention that things like stealing are pervasive in the Corps. So essentially, you have the same assholes in the Marine Corps that you do in the civilian world. You have the same motivated, smart, and dedicated people in the Marine Corps that you do in the Civilian world. So essentially, you’re looking at a job with the same types of human capital, but shittier pay, crappy healthcare, odd hours, and the wonderful chain of command that seems to be populated by nimrods that can’t make anything happen on time.

That’s my warning to you… you’ll be no better than any civilian or be surrounded by anyone better.

We just do a different job than most people do i.e. wage war. If that shit appeals to you: spending a lot of time away from home & loved ones, deployments, killing, and incompetent leadership then go for it. On the plus side if you follow T-Nation expect to have the Marine Corps destroy any gains you’ve ever made.

The Marine Corps is great for some people, but not for others.

Hey, there’s only one thief in the Corps. Everyone else is just trying to get his shit back.

OP: The corps won’t take you with a drug conviction right now. And with your attitude, I doubt you’d make it through forming on Parris Island before they sent you to see the wizard for a failure to adapt discharge. Grow up somewhere else; despite popular belief the USMC is not the employer of last resort.

Thanks, drive through.
