Jobs Anyone?

I’ve been a member of T-Nation for quite a while now and love this site and all the ideas behind it. I’m graduating college in a couple weeks and have been looking around for a job. My major is Electrical Engineering. Fine… call me a nerd!

I have been applying to a lot of places. However, the job market has been slow and I haven’t gotten lucky so far.
I was wondering if any of the T-Men/Vixens are in this field/hiring or have some pointers for me. PM me and I’d be glad to send you a resume.
I don’t mean to use this wonderful site as a job posting board. However, it’d be a big help if any of you could help a fellow T-Brother out.
Thanks!

Where do you live?

Yeah, I’ve got a job, thanks.

Put your do hicky on monster.com

You’ll for sure get some attention!

I live in Indiana.
I’ve already got my resume on all the job search sites. Haven’t really got too many responses! I also have a lot of experience in the software side.

Monster is great and all, but it’s certainly not the end all. Get your tail to as many job/career fairs as you can. Bring a ton of reumes and start talking to anyone and everyone! NETWORK! Even if they’re not hiring anyone in your field, talk to them anyway. You may hit it off with someone and they can help you or point in the right direction.

Keep in mind…most jobs out there are not posted! Job fairs give employers the oportunity to get to know you as a person. If you think that your personality doesn’t count when it comes to getting hired, your dead wrong. No one will hire you if your personality doesn’t mesh with the rest of the office/employees. Nobody wants someone who will rock the boat, ya know. Keep at it and just plug away. Get on the phone, get as many interviews as you can even if you KNOW you won’t take the job. Get good at interviewing. Finding a job is a full time job.

I know my company in CT is always looking for engineers… but that’s CT, not Indiana.

Thanks a lot for the all the replies guys. It’s a good feeling to know that you can come to your favorite lifting site and have genuine people help you out.

Kuz: If the job requires, I’m open to relocation. Please feel free to PM me with more details about your company.

Justthrowit: Thanks for the tips. I’ve been networking a lot with all the people I know. Some have gotten me results while others haven’t been that successful. Nevertheless, I continue on my quest. I know I have the ability to excel on the job, if only given a chance! Please keep all the good advice coming.

When you apply to companies go to their website (assuming they have one) and research the company as much as possible. Try to find out who you would be reporting to and contact that person directly to convey what you can bring to the company. Make it clear in your resume what you can do for the company. When you go into the interview you should have a clear plan of what you will bring to the table.

Also, when you find positons on websites such as Monster, instead of submitting your resume through Monster, submit the resume directly to the company and preferably to the person that will be interwiewing you. Type Re: in the email that you send so it looks like the person that you are sending it to has been in correspondance with you.
