Damn… Sold the tractor, got some Russian program kicking ass, taking names, A big freaking bench for reps, AND you are going snow boarding?

You made me tired AND sore just reading about it… BTW, I’m angling for one of those commercial Z mowers when my lawn tractor gives up the ghost.

OP, you are probably right, I have to keep reminding myself I am not getting paid to do this shit. Thanks for stopping in, KMC, Joe, anmd SteeyD! JW, those zero turns are really cool for straight mowing, but I really like towing logs around my property with the JD.

Week 2, Day 3, Smolov Intense Phase:

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 275 x3, 315 x3, 365 x 4, 385 x 5, 5, 5, 5.

Notes: It was a really, really tough day today. I went to bed stiff and woke up sore and stiffer. I felt very close to injury with something trying to give way in my ass and lower back while squatting, so I had to adjust my stance to a very narrow one and this made it a very quad-dominant lift. I couldn’t swear I hit depth on every rep, but I hit most of them pretty damn deep, all things considered. Now I get two days off–almost a deload.

Edit: My first entry in my current log book is July 14, 2009, and I just realized I filled it. So, that’s 100 training days since July 14. I feel pretty good about that.

And considering you’ve added over 100lbs to your max squat since then, you should declare success as well. Well done!

Back to the skiing topic - On my last trip up the mountain I was surprised by my stamina and leg strength (not that I have that much). Had no problem making full tilt runs from peak to bottom and only resting on the chair. Did that all day, and in years past I was spent after 2 or 3 full tilt runs. Had only one “yard sale” fall on one of the black diamond tracks. The pack of local kids trying to keep up made it all that much funner.

Guess I’m brag’in a little, but I was really shocked how much the lifting has improved my skiing enjoyment. I hope you have a great skiing workout and lots of fun up there.

Just getting caught up with your training Jack…one word comes to mind…DAMN! lotta weight, volume and intensity…supersetting 250 bench with NG chins…must be something in the air out west! and 100 training days…Consistency brother, well done.

I’ve had exactly the same experience. All the squatting and deadlifting and core work since last ski season have made an enormous difference in how long and fast I can ski.

So, if you can temporarily shift your thinking to lifting as accessory work for snowboarding it will all be good!

OP and Kimba, I am hoping there is some carry-over from the gym, but my fear is that I am just too heavy. Weight is a killer on the slopes.

Notes: Today sucked. I felt like I was on the verge of injury all day. I just kept saying “one more set, then I’ll likely shut it down,” until I was done. But Smolov is a nasty Russian who knows how to torture you without breaking you. And I know that, which is likely the only reason I finished all the required reps today.

Side notes: My square hit the money last night and I won 80 bucks. So I got that goin’ for me.

Told you Smolov is a four letter word. :slight_smile: LOL. You need massages or alot of foam rolling before and after when doing this routine.

Thanks fellas! Fischer, you were definately right. That Russian is a real bastard. I am doing some foam rolling, but that shit hurts! I am also going to a crazy asian guy on Fridays who does massage/art/accupressure type stuff and it seems to help. Also, I am getting the wife to walk on my back, this is really awesome. She is getting good and walking on the balls of her feet and heels. Its about the only thing that gets my lower back to release.

Press day:

OHP: 45 x20, 90 x10, 135 x 5

Superset:

OHP: 165 x 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, (30 total), 135 x 12.

NG Chins: 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 (50 total)


Superset:

Dips: +20 x 10, +40 x 10, +60 x 7

Cable Rows: 165 x 10, 180 x10, 195 x10, 210 x 7.


Hammer Curls: 45s x15

RGBB Curls: 65 x 20 (had to set it down in the middle to adjust the collar)

Finger’s Back Pushup Planks: 45 secs.

Notes: It was a pretty good day today. Nothing special to report. Same old aches and pains, but nothing unusual. Squats tomorrow.
