Jillian Michaels vs the body positivity movement

Here’s an interesting thought….with GLP-1’s heavily advertised, widely available, often mentioned on all social media platforms…one would think that people that are MORBIDLY obese (think a 5/1 woman weighing 350lbs big, like that) would be FLOCKING to doctors to obtain a prescription for these weight loss drugs. When you have go to a doctor and they report your BMI as being in the “obese” category, most insurances will automatically approve you. Your doctor just has to fill out a prior authorization form and send it in, proclaiming you are fat as shit. But, as I look around me in a city sadly known for being FAT FAT FAT, I still see a disturbing number of human beings who could also double as hippos. So, why is that? Granted, I’m talking about people with health insurance and some means, so they could do it…but that is still a big chunk of the population. I should know, in my job there are plenty of BIG people wallowing around and we have excellent health insurance.

As I thought and thought about it, it dawned on me that for many of these people, it’s sort of like a drug addiction….their relationship with food. They don’t want to give it up/kick it. That must be it, because many of those people got in the shape they are in because of an unhealthy relationship with food.
Does anyone else think this is a major reason why, in this moment in time, we still see SO many obese people all around? I think that this might just be a major factor…..if not perhaps the biggest factor still keeping so many from taking these drugs and literally saving their lives, as with insane obesity, it’s a well known causal factor in a myriad of illnesses, injuries, and in morbidity. I dunno…..I was just pondering why someone WOULD NOT take these proven medications. Has to be they don’t want to “quit” eating donuts, mickey d’s, tacos, ice cream, etc. etc.

Oh, one more thing, back to the video…Jillian should have asked those clowns how many massively obese people they knew that were over the age of 70, 80, etc. Because personally, I don’t know any. It’s is very rare to see someone in their 80s who is several hundreds of pounds overweight, because all of the terrible health issues obese people face as they get beyond 40. She should have asked them if they wanted to live long and well into old age. I reckon many of them would have said they wanted to, but the reality is that the odds of that happening to individual that obese are extremely small. Me, personally, I’d like to BE ALIVE as long as possible, and so I do anything I can to take care of my body.

BMI as being in the “obese” category, most insurances will automatically approve you.

This is what AI has to say on the matter

Yeesh! I guess I am lucky as I have good insurance. My doc told me I qualified and was approved, since my “BMI” was sky high, due to me weighing 305lbs and being 5’11….but I’m a former bodybuilder and still quite muscular, obviously, so the BMI is not an accurate representation of my actual fat levels. LOL, I laughed when he told me my BMI had me categorized in the extremely dangerous BMI danger zone….lol, but he obviously knew why it was high as he SEES me and knows it due to my muscle mass.

Yeah, he said I could get a script and with my insurance, I looked, it would cost me $25/month for 1 shot a week of Zepbound. I know, yes, I’ve thought about the making money side of it, but hahaha, I’m not getting into that nonsense, I did that with other items years ago and I’m done with being “a plug” lol

It is worth appreciating that you can see a lot of people at 305lbs at 5’11, and you can see a lot of 70 year olds, but you aren’t going to see a lot of 5’11 305lb 70 year olds.

Lean tissue is awesome, and it’s very precious to hold onto as we age, but BMI is a little agnostic to it as it relates to morbidity.

I find this to be very true. You see it quite often in bariatric surgeries as well. I’ve known several people who have had weigh loss surgery and usually within two or three years are back to being obese. A weight loss surgery will only do so much when your breakfast continues to be a donut and Mt Dew and your lunch is McDonald’s. I know plenty of people on the weigh loss drugs who are still eating shit food. The weight is a symptom of a problem. That could be some kind of hormonal imbalance or excessive calorie intake, but either way it is a symptom not a cause. If you do not take care of the cause (under active thyroid, terrible diet etc.) the symptom will simply return.

Well on a bright Note… I view things like ozempic better than I do say Gastric bypass. Allot less risky IMO… But from what I understand side effects from GLP-1s are starting to become common.

So, they are lazy and looking for a short cut?..Got it.

Of course it’s an addiction, they’re filling (or trying to fill) an emotional void.
Some people choose Heroin, some prefer alcohol, or gambling, others choose food. Some even go with… lifting weights.

Unfortunately, it’s also really rare to see someone with lots of muscle mass in their 80s.

Easier being a victim than going to gym, eating less or just using Ozempic.
