Jeff's Art

tommyboy: the best way to explain the art at the con is to check out the website: www.comic-con.org

There was so much variety this year. Alot more digital art via video games and anime this year. Comic Con is definitely no longer just about comic books. It's all "growed up" and storyboarding, video gaming, anime, animation, cartooning, and sci fi/fantasy illustration are all now pretty prevalent. I would say, next year GO to this thing. It'll be well worth the trip - especially if you're an artist. Personally, I'm an old fashioned gal and prefer picking up a pencil or a brush for much of my work. But will "tweak" my work via Photoshop. And I'll take Volume #2 (Gary Martin's book) another look. I love his stuff. I buy most of my artist reference materials from Bud Plant - www.budplant.com - if you haven't yet, check it out. They also have a HUGE booth at Comic Con every year.

Been buying from Bud Plant for years. Sometimes I buy so much I feel I could single handedly keep them in business.

tommyboy: I absolutely KNOW what you mean (about Bud Plant)! I guess than that both you and I are keeping them in business! he he he.

I must apologize to Jeff for having "hijacked" his thread. I am sorry. Jeff, please keep us updated as to your progress (in art). I should say that I am largely self-taught. I have taken a few courses here and there - best one was a "Anatomy for Artists" course that was VERY helpful. The best thing for any artist, illustrator or graphic artist to do is to draw, doodle or sketch everyday. I'd say to also play around with design applications on the computer - but I find that drawing everyday is the single best thing for ANY artist to do.

tommyboy - Actually Dan still despises the computer although I’m sure that he is a little more leniant nowadays since he is starting to recognize the “industry’s” progression into newer technology. Patricia - Thanks for all the suggestions! And don’t worry about hijacking this thread - like I said from my first post, it is a rip off from the thread pertaining to your art, hehe. All’s fair in love and war right? Just kidding. Anyways, sooner or later I’m gonna do a major update to my portfolio so I’ll definitely be posting to let you all know about my progression. Lately I’ve been occupied with making a PowerPoint belated birthday card for a friend so I haven’t been posting lately. Anyhow, whatever else comes to mind that you feel could be useful feel free to post - hell, take over the thread if needed! =) Thanks again!

Jeff , I tried to send you an e-mail, but the address on you portfolio site is no longer working. I’m assuming it changed from @home to something else.

Oh man, I completely forogt to change my e-mail address. You’re right, it’s actually switched from @home.com to @comcast.net. Looking forward to your e-mail.
