James Stumbles Through Powerlifting

I"m hoping some of it is muscle but there’s some fat in the mix. But I’m tall so the extra fat isn’t a big deal. And I’m not signing up for a hot abz contest anytime soon.

I’m at 227bw which I think is almost (if not) as heavy as I’ve ever been. I can still do pull ups and can do dragon flags with no problems so I’m not going to worry about the extra bodyfat that I’m carrying which is a struggle for me.[/quote]

I’d say if you haven’t had to loosen your belt, that KP’s right and it’s probably muscle.

Have you been eating to gain?

Cheers FB. My waist has gotten bigger but not excessively. It’s winter…

3 Jan ME Lower
Mobility work
Front squats: 3bar, 135, 155, 185, 205. 1225, 245, 275, 285, 305, 305,
Deads: 1315, 405, 425, 455, 475, 455
Step ups: 2
6*135

My legs were worn out from the sledding yesterday. Front squats went well but I shut deadlifts down early because I could feel my back taking over and the last thing I need is to be hurt a week before my comp.

Vids of lifts to follow.

Good work James. Are you competing at 220?

I’m bouncing between 225 and 228 but I will cut back some on my diet next week and get down to 219.99999999 (hopefully).

james

If you have a 24 hour weight in it shouldn’t be a problem at all. Cut out water the day of the weight in then drink and eat plenty right after you weigh in and you will be good to go.

Good luck, what are your openers?

Technically, you are OK as long as you weigh less than 220.5. Watch the sodium intake, too, and you shouldn’t have any problem making weight. Good luck.

I’m going to weigh in the morning of simply because of convenience. It’s a half hour up the coast to the meet on a Friday night so traffic will be terrible.

Openers I’m thinking will be squat 385, bench 285, dead 500. I’m going to PR squat and bench and stick pretty close to the 500 mark on my dead. I would like to get 430 on my squat.

Thanks for that. I was at 215 last meet and want to be legit in the 240s for the one after this.

Damn fine work, a 50lb PR is crazy.

Thanks Joe. I was really surprised by it but I think it’s also beginner gains.
