Short Meet Report

Southern qualifier for nationals at bodypower. Entered the qualifier so that Id still be able to compete if didn’t make my invitation weight.

Summary - 27 wight lights, 2 x Comp PBs and a 700 total, also comp PB.

Signing up for the comp I told myself i wasnt going to push it too hard, maybe limit myself to 90% of 1RM on each lift, so that it didnt throw off my training for nationals. In the end I pushed a lot harder than that, but I went 5kg under my current gym PBs on each lift.

Weight 87.25 with no weight or water cut, just skipped breakfast.
Squats
200
220
235 - Comp PB (240 in the gym)

Bench
150
160
165 - (170 gym)

Deadlift
260
280
300 - Comp PB (305 gym)

Overall a good day and some valuable platform experience that should help me dial in my openers and selections to be more competitive at Nationals.

Current thinking is

Open 220 on squat to go 235/240 second and give myself a shot at 250 third.

Bench Ill go 155-165-170

Deadlift will be 280-300-310 for the cross fed national record

Didn’t take any videos but just got sent some videos of my squat and deadlift from an audience member.

Think I’ll have to go heavier than 300 next time.

Do u usually use a dl bar?

Fuck yeah mate, well done, congrats.
That DL looked like, wow, freakin easy.
Squat looked strong too.

No, I don’t have them at my gym, so my training lifts are either on a proper stiff bar or on an Olympic lifting bar.

I thought the Olympic bars would be a good replica for deadlift bar, but the thinner handle just makes everything feel so much easier.

Thanks man, yea the squat felt ‘solid’ but not easy, deadlift felt easy.

Might need to get some elbow sleeves or something for when im squatting.

The slingshot compression cuffs are a god send mate, i dont fond that sleeves help too much

Whats the difference? If they help ill definitely look into them.

My elbow sleeves are neoprene and dont give much compression, the cuffs are the same material as the slingshots and they sell them in 1 inch sizings, so you measure your arm where you get the pain and order them an inch or so smaller, i have to take mine off between sets because they’re really tight.

Interesting. Do you wear them over your elbow, or around your forearm?
