It’s not every commander who can successfully defy and chase away not one but two invading imperial armies. Give the devil his due. We gave it our best, but we couldn’t beat him, and neither could the French before us. The political reasons why we lost in Viet Nam are immaterial. The fact is, we retreated, and he prevailed, and lived a long and satisfied life into the bargain.
I may not agree with their political philosophy, but I certainly admire Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh for their strategic acumen.

Look at Afghanistan now, Afghans are giving us a hard time there with NO Planes, NO Helicopters, NO Humvees, Few if any Tanks,
NO Hi Tech equipment including NO ‘‘Night Vision’’, Virtually NO Hi-Tech protective gear, etc. etc…for over a fuckin’ decade, How’s that even possible?
If the Afghans had all that Hi Tech Weaponry we had there, and they knew how to use it, we would have lost the War in one week and came home with our tail between our legs…The Russians did, back in the 80’s.

Giap also beat the Chinese in 1979. You have to respect the guy, he was good at fighting in Vietnam.
