It Begins: CPAC 2011

From the little I have seen, I am really liking Paul Ryan (R-WI). Does anyone have the scoop on him? He seems likes the Repub. version of Obama (not in his politcs; but the being young, well spoken, new to scene, etc.) Is he a legit threat to get behind?
Agreed that he appears well spoken and charismatic, but he voted for TARP which tells me he just swings whichever way is politically convenient. Not to mention he’s been backtracking all over the place lately with the budget cuts and how they will NOT be $100 billion. And I’ve still yet to see him embrace anything more than meager cuts. All talk, no action with PR, it seems.

For all of the other RP lovers, I think we’ll have to chalk the 2012 election up as a loss to Obama and hopefully Rand Paul will run in 2016 (and have the brand to win it by that time). Or Chris Christie, another pimp.

Edit - Paul Ryan’s reasoning for voting for TARP, auto bailouts and AIG bonuses.

He’s either following the political winds or falling for the doom and gloom rhetoric, hook, line and sinker. Either way, not someone I’m a fan of.

Well it seems the slant against Ron Paul is beginning.

This is from FOX.

First part is the Cspan video second is what fox showed and edited.

What?

They simply used last years coverage for this years event.

I am sure it was an honest mistake…

How many things have to make him un-electable before his is not able to be elected? I’d say just one. And you have said age, okay let’s use that one. He’s too old. Simple. Let’s now move on to a candidate who can win. Isn’t that the smart thing to do? You said he’s too old and you’re right. Let’s end it right there. We won’t talk about his whiney voice, or the fact that he’s only a Congressman (they don’t get elected President have you noticed), or the fact that he comes off as an old crank, oh wait is that the age thing again? Oh well…let’s just forget about him.

How many times does this “unelectable” man have to be elected before you concede that he is indeed “electable”.

Also, want a list of presidents and governors that got elected despite being defeated the first time.

If Nixon could get the nod, anyone can.

You’re right orion I think Paul will be the next President and I’m very excited about the prospect. I have no idea what I was thinking earlier. A whiny voiced, 200 year old Congressman who comes off like a nut CAN get elected. In fact, I am starting a Ron Paul for President chapter in my town.

Thanks for the wisdom.

Are you counting Austrian votes?
Dabba wrote:
Dustin wrote:
You are correct, which just reinforces that the Amerikan voter is an imbecile. Substance means nothing to the Amerikan voter.
I’m not even sure it’s that. How much trouble should each individual voter go through to put in the time and research into figuring out which candidate is best? And this means getting a grounding first in politics, economics, history, etc. After all of this is said and done, they cast a vote which is 1 of millions and, therefore, counts for very little. Voters are rationally ignorant because the cost of really looking into it exceeds their individual contribution.
You bring up some good points and perhaps your term, “rationally ignorant”, is more applicable that the term I used.

I think Orion is just being generous and assuming that 60M votes is half the voters who actually turn out to vote on election day.

I am aware of the sometimes symbiotic relationship between business and government. But it’s not quite as cozy as you, and many others on this site suggest. It cannot be because each is truly out for themselves not for the other.

Fuck me, is it not?

How many do turn up?

I have never met orion and I know that he is not from the US, but I would gladly vote for orion over Obama, and I mean that. Obama is on his way to being the single worst President in modern times. Right now he is third behind second place holder Jimmy Carter and the worst modern day President, and perhaps worst President in US history Lyndon Baines Johnson.

Why would you want to do that to me?

I mean, back when you pretty much only had to smoke cigars and watch a few parades I am sure that the job was awesome, but now it would be just a major headache for surprisingly little money.

Also, I would probably bitch slap O Riley, which would not be very presidential.

He probably beats Jimmy Carter but LBJ? Thats a toughy. The university I went to worships LBJ since he went there. Sigh. If people actually read how dickish that guy actually was.

Google his name(add in something like racist quotes or was rude. Something along those lines) and plenty should come up. If you dont find anything that satisfies you, let me know and Ill scrounge up some of my old books.

This is from before CPAC, but it’s good:

I think at the end of the day the economy is going to drive the median vote.

Probably closer to 90M total. All the voter turnout records I see do not indicate an absolute value but speak in percentages. The highest estimate is 60%. The current US population is 300M. Assume half of that is eligible to vote at any given time, at best, and the total voting population is roughly 90M.

Basically, I think you over estimated how many more people besides ZEB need to be converted.

We’re closer than you think.
