Is This the End of Roe v. Wade?

Probably won’t be too difficult for her! (ba dum, tss)

I will never understand how a man could forsake their child regardless of the mom or circumstances.

Not just a careless bastard, but you are a piece of cowardly shit if you do that. You aren’t a man. And it happens far too often.

Didn’t suffragettes try that shit?

Did you catch Whoopsie Goldturd saying “My body my choice” too?

It sure as fuck wasn’t “your body, your choice” when it came to vaccines, masks, or really anything else - ever. Strange how that works out.

That certain highlights the hypocrisy, but the “my body” argument with abortion has to be one of the dumbest arguments around. They don’t apply it to vaccines, or rec drugs, or steroids, or any of the trillion other laws that regulate medicine where really and truly the only body directly affected is yours. YET somehow they decide to apply the argument to one of the very few medical procedures that directly affects 2 distinct human bodies.

I THINK a few years ago, you and I talked specifically about my child support situation privately, I’m not sure I ever shared it on here. Probably not.

So, in Texas, these things are not the case. A) you can go to jail for up to 6 months if you don’t pay your child support. B) Child support is based on a flat rate, 20% of net income, regardless of how much your income is in the first place. AND it doesn’t account for how much custody you actually have of your child. The only thing that is considered is who gets the ‘primary’ label, which only one parent can have. It can be a 50 50 custody split, but one person will always be deemed primary, by law, and that person is entitled to 20% of the other person’s income. Also, it is almost impossible for a man to end up with primary custody, as long as she at least wants it, and doesn’t have an extensive criminal record. A minor criminal record will generally still land her primary custody, even if the dad has a clean one.

I can’t imagine how hard it would be for someone making, like, 11 dollars an hour (which is 50% ABOVE minimum wage here) to make ends meet, actually SUPPORT the child outside of the monthly garnishments. It’s a pretty bad situation. It forces a lot of dads into giving up time with their children, because they can’t afford official child support payments AND the money it takes to feed, clothe and entertain a child 50% of the time.

But of course, this is off topic, I just thought I’d share what the reality is in my state (which has also largely outlawed abortion) for the male parent.

And even more than that, the same people that want socialized medicine where the government gets to control if you get something as uncontroversial as a knee replacement. My body my choice is antithetical to socialized one payer medicine.

Thanks for sharing that. That’s brutal! Like, they want men to provide for the kids. But how can a man provide for a kid if he’s in jail? I once heard of a case of man who was malnourished because he cut down on his food bill to pay child support!

I won’t address vaccines because that can of worms is too big, but with most rec drugs, the harm done to the community can be significant. And the drugs where this is not the case, most liberals DISAGREE with current laws anyway. Banning things like weed is a conservative policy. Let’s not pretend it’s the liberal end of the spectrum that wants to keep marijuana illegal, lol.

And steroids are just not on most peoples’ minds, period. We’re the only people that give a fuck about that, one way or the other. I would THINK that most people on the left who are against legalizing steroids are also believers in the ‘roid rage’ thing. 99% of America doesn’t understand the subject in general.

It can be brutal, man! There are a lot of states with really antiquated child support laws. They largely discourage the non-primary parent from being an active participant in their child’s life.

I would be paying exactly the same child support for my son, whether I took care of him 50% of the time, or if I never saw him again in my life. I can’t understand why this law has stood for so long, it’s goddamn insane.

I don’t disagree with much of anything you said. Doesn’t change the hypocrisy of the argument.

Some do. I think we should be allowed access to drugs if we so choose. This includes vaccines, anabolics, pharmaceuticals, and recreational drugs.

Trying to be consistent can be inconvenient at times.

Off topic, but I don’t think people need assault rifles, but they should be allowed to have them. We don’t need Dodge Hellcats (probably much more likely to kill their owner or others than guns), but we allow that. We (being many of us) like to pick and choose what things are and aren’t acceptable without thoughts of being consistent. Human nature I suppose.

As to the steroids, I don’t think you can be consistently in support of keeping tobacco and alcohol legal, wanting to legalize MJ, and not be in support of legalizing steroids.

You’re in Texas, so this likely won’t work. I wonder though, what happens if the man starts to identify as a woman? How does the court then choose? It seems like a tricky thing for the court to navigate if that were to happen. Maybe they would just defer to the birthing parent?

In Texas? with the only sane parent.
In California? With whoever the bigger victim is.

likely this

I said birthing parent, because the MTF parent would say they are also a mother.

Let’s not erase women in society. I draw a hard line here.

I guess I just think it would be an interesting case to see play out. I could see a high probability of counter suits. For example, if they go with the actual female, but she has a criminal record, but the male MTF “mom” is clean, it could be seen as transphobic or something.

OHHHHHHH man. This is definitely not true hahahahha. Soooooooo far from accurate.

I won’t get into details about my ex wife out of respect for her, but I have my entire family here in Dallas, who are awesome to my son, I make a ton of money, I have no criminal background, I have my son 50% of the time, I pay for all his recreational activities (sports, camps, etc), on top of the preschool he went to, and his health insurance, ALL on top of child support. I’m college educated, etc. Literally nothing I just listed applies to my ex. And there was zero chance of me getting primary custody.

I appreciate that you think Texas is the perfect state, but it’s so far from it if you’re a good dad who actually cares about his son and takes care of him. If you fit that bill, it might actually be the worst state for you, financially and rights-wise.

You answered your own question with the first sentence. There may be 2-3 states where the trans parent has a decent shot at being primary, but these would be states where a dad already has a good shot.

I actually don’t but I assumed the obvious choice would be the parent without a mental health disorder that 40% of the time results in attempted suicide.

I’ll save my “why I don’t care for Texas” spiel for another day
