I don’t think so TBH. I think a lot of people get upset when they are shown to be irrational. Some people will actually change their thinking when shown that their thoughts are in some way irrational, but I think they are a minority.
I think a lot of people like to think of themselves as rational though.
The Dems will certainly be trying to make 2022 midterms about abortion. How well will it work? IDK.
I’d say before this, that we would for sure see a red wave. If the Dems can be effective at their messaging (doubtful), I could see it not being as brutal for them.
All laws limit bodily autonomy and have disparate impact on different groups of people. By this idea of a “right” meaning getting to do whatever you want with your body, all laws take away rights.
I believe the laws you are talking about generally are justified by the generally accepted “your right to swing your fist ends at my nose”. Or even “your rights to swing your fist ends when there is a reasonable chance your fist hits my nose”.
I am of the opinion that we should as a society start out by allowing people freedom to do what they please, then eliminate some of those rights when there is a good reason to do so. Negatively impacting someone else is often a good reason to eliminate a right.
Name one that doesn’t. All that’s necessary though is some though. I can’t run out onto the highway, or even lay on the train tracks (where no one else is at risk). I can’t jump the counter at the DVM. There are literally tens of thousands of laws that restrict bodily autonomy without risking the lives of others. And that’s only if we ignore the scientific fact that an abortion involves 2 humans. Hell, The way laws around medicine and healthcare work, they restrict all kinds of bodily autonomy. They won’t let me get my leg amputated. They won’t let me get 3 grams of test a week even if I identify as a bodybuilder (dare I say a disparate impact against men, because women can medically get supraphysiological doses of test). They won’t let me take heroine. I can keep going if you need me to.
And you don’t see an argument that abortion negatively impacts another?
I saw quite a bit of advocacy for forcing people to take the vaccine during the ~2 years Covid lasted in SoCal. Everyone else was done with it after the first year, but Cali dragged that shit on until they thought it would affect election results.
In LA, they weren’t saying “You should get vaccinated”, they were saying “You can’t participate in society if you aren’t vaccinated”. And yes, the leftist religion very much did their best to caste aside dissidents.
No, just your typical idiots that don’t understand rights or the constitution.
I always laugh at the, “I wish my vagina had as many rights as guns”, crowd. Then when you explain it to them they just accuse you of lying or that you are wrong based on their zero factual basis and emotions.
“but wearing a mask is to help other people…”
-“and stopping abortion doesn’t help anyone else…?”
Yet again I come to the conclusion that any reach of government that further reduces one’s rights is a reach too far.
Dont want to get vaccinated? Don’t.
Don’t want to keep your child? Don’t (although giving it the egg-beater-yeeter could be replaced with adoption).
Just stop pretending that government overreach is “okay” when it’s your party bending you over the table… It’s never okay.
