Is This Billboard Offenisve?

Boards been boring as shit lately, let’s get some of dat der Patriarchy going.

IS this offensive?
Do you want to buy or boycott their electricity?

Some of the comments (were at the time of posting) pretty funny.

I’m deeply offended they left her snatch out.

It could easily be a man’s leg.

Then I guess I’m a little gay because all that billboard does is make me want to buy my wife those shoes, and do whatever housework is required to see her in them.

It is clearly offensive to feminists… they don’t shave their legs.

This is the state representative raising the stink.

She could easily be a man.

A bestockinged leg and a “turn you on” electricity pun…hilarious!

It’s offensive because someone, somewhere thought it was funny but it’s just lazy advertising.

I’m not a woman, so my opinion doesn’t really count.

I do know that if the model for that billboard was my wife, I’d be proud!

Indeed, it is lazy advertising, bowing to the lowest common denominator.

I thought that was what advertising aimed to do in practice? Lowest common denominator buys product.

In other news, comedy is offensive. That’s one reason it’s…well, comedy.

TL;DR, I don’t give a rats ass one way or the other. I get offended all the time but it doesn’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

Holy shit hahahhahahahhahahhhh!!!

I’m not going to judge whether it’s offensive or not but holy shit is making a turn on the light/sexy turn on joke fucking hack as shit.

For an electric company, they certainly hired some dim bulbs to do their advertising.

That ad reminds me of Idiocracy where every ad in that movie is a sexual innuendo. It also does nothing to inform about the business or its industry. That billboard would be just as relevant if they put a bare ass next to the light switch.

Other ideas:
“When others are pulling out, we’re still plugged in”
“We know how to flip your switches”
“We discharge into your wall”
“We can handle your load”
“Effective high-current solutions for residential and commercial applications” - ok that one wasn’t sexy:/

I really don’t understand what the big deal is. It is not like they had a dildo between her legs! Women have been used to sell things probably since there were things to sell. I have no offense to this bill board.

I can’t get worked up over it, personally. But I like seeing men advertising underpants, so maybe I’m part of the perv market. In answer to Representative Fiola’s question about how one responds to children asking about it, I would simply label it a dumb joke. If that didn’t answer the question I would explain, no big deal: “Some people think legs are sexy, and ‘turned on is another word for sexy’ and it’s also what you do with power, see? A joke.” Ba da bum.

One thing I do get worked up about is the photoshopping of virtually every photo of women we see. Eyes widened, legs lengthened, waist/hip ratio increased, etc. . . I think this stuff is incredibly damaging to young girls and women generally. Truly an impossible ideal.

As far as kids, people worry way too much about these sorts of things for kids. This is the kind of joke that either you get it or completely don’t get it but don’t realize you’re missing something.

Could you explain why idealized images of women are damaging to girls but idealized images of men are not damaging to boys?

So, I drive by this billboard everyday and know the area pretty well.

The people who would get offended by this billboard are the type find offense in the most innocuous of statements and skew things to make them into an issue. So basically, a small percentage of the overall population - I’d be willing to bet <10%

Now, that’s the overall population - in the area which the billboard targets, is more impoverished than average with a high immigrant population (Portuguese, Puerto Rican, Central American, etc) and the city that this lady represents has larger issues than a billboard with a tongue-in-cheek leg and saying on it.

This soccer mom turned state rep needs to get her head out of her ass and focus on the real issues facing the city, not some made up bullshit about setting women back 50 years.

FWIW, it’s from the same city that Aaron Hernandez is being tried in. GO PATS
