Question: have you ever taken a significant amount (1 gram per % bodyfat) of a very good quality fish oil?

In my experience, the people who say they saw no increased benefit are the same ones who say, “Bah, fish oil is fish oil. Costco is just as good as the pharmaceutical grade stuff.”

Quality makes a HUGE difference.

The Omega 6/3 ratio is important. But unless you’re eating a ton of fish, or lots of really high-quality grass-fed meat, your o6/03 ratio will need correcting, since most of the fat you’ll encounter in this day and age has a terrible 6/3 ratio.

It makes my knees feel noticeably better, so i take it

I am 20 years old. Perfectly functioning body and decent diet with fish a couple of meals a week. Do I really need fish oil?

You won’t die without it, so you don’t “need” it, but you’ll likely perform better over the long run with it.

Didn’t you read the prior posts in this thread?

I did read the previous posts. I mean, I eat my fish, get the DHA and EPA. Would supplementing with fishoil actually make me perform significantly better. How about eating more fish? I am well aware of mercury, by the way.

http://www.ergo-log.com released an article about black tea inhibiting the uptake of mercury. Cup of tea inhibits uptake of mercury from fish
Any comments about that?

Almost everyone has/had a “perfectly functioning body” at 20 years old. Taking the fish oil NOW will prevent some things that those of us who didn’t know about it at the time are suffering from (like joint pain). I am not saying it will 100% prevent it, but I would tend to believe it will help in the long run.

And what type of fish are you eating? I could say that I eat meat several times per day, but what the fuck would that mean? Is it free-range, grass-fed beef where I went and picked the animal I wanted or is a Finaplix enhanced, cartilage-and-grain-filled-feed raised behemoth that accidentally got run over by a combine and wound up in the meat dept of the local supermarket? They are both “meat” (even from the same species of animal) but vastly different in their nutritional profiles.

Most likely, anyone will benefit from fish oil supplementation.

I am following up on the 1g fish oil per %body fat per oil. Noticing changes in concentration, memory and more alert in the mornings and at work.

Question Bryan (or anyone) : does it make a difference on the timings for taking Fish Oil? Before meals or every 2 hours or other timing? How much of a difference do you think it might make? Thank you.

Hey fellas, im lazy when it comes to fish oil, but wanna start smashing it. Like Bryan said, you take 1g per %BF so currently im 21% BF, done last week, should i be taking 21g. Seems like an aweful lot. Not cos its expensive or cant be bothered but how long till my body gets used to that much fish oil. Likelihood of my stools soft??

It is my understanding that you should never take it on an empty stomach, as in the absence of other food your body will burn up the DHA and EPA as energy.

I’ve also heard to take it at least an hour before any big meal, if you’re looking to reduce insulin response.

Nothing on this website is necessary in any way whatsoever, is a lot of it a good idea? Yes
