Is a CPAP Worth It?

First night with my CPAP. I slept pretty well despite having a full face mask version. I am NOT tired this afternoon despite usually dragging ass. That’s all I have for update… only day 1.

CPAP changed my life after a sleep study where I “woke up” 163 times in 182 minutes. I finally had a sleep study done after being tired all the time and falling asleep while driving on a bridge 300 feet above the Missouri River (thankfully the rumble strips woke me up, but it could have been really bad).

If I don’t sleep with it, I often wake up with a nasty splitting headache and no energy.

Highly recommend a sleep study if you think you need CPAP. My pulmonologist said I had the worst case conditions for OSA - large muscular neck and the smallest of the 4 standard “throat shapes” (I guess they have measured that sort of thing).

I did a at home sleep study and sleep apnea was ruled out. The problem is I have sleeping problems and hardly ever fell asleep. I told them this but they didn’t care.

Anyone wanna buy a brand new cpap machine? I hate it

Try a sleep dentist for a custom mouthpiece. As soon as I can afford one I am getting one so I dont have to be reliant on electricity just to sleep.

I have this one and I like it. I mean, as far as CPAPs go, I like it anyways.

It’s been like 10 years since I got my machine. I think I am due for an upgrade…

Well if you’re buying out of pocket lemme know :joy:

CPAP machines are annoying during allergy season. I use the nose-only mask most of the time, but I might need to break out the full one because my sinuses are clogged.

I use a nasal spray nightly before using the CPAP so this isn’t an issue. Helps dramatically for people with allergies like me

Just don’t use a spray like Afrin (Oxymetazoline) long term. It seems to lead to be stuffed up when you wouldn’t normally be, and then you need the spray to be normal.

I get terrible sinus congestion (can’t get close to enough air through the nose to make breathing though it an option) from lake and pond water (if a good amount gets up my nose), and I go in a lot of lakes and a few ponds every summer. I keep the spray use to 2 days after. The spray works great though. Only thing that works for me after getting lake water in the nose. Sometimes if I am still a little congested, after two days, I’ll do a single spray into one nostril.
