I agree. I think they can get way too carried away with that “fun aspect” when the truth is, even though Stark plays around a lot, he has deep issues with his father and mother…and not to mention the alcoholism. I think Iron Man 2 was a waste of film. It was classic “sequel-itis”…

Stark finds himself in a situation where he’s not completely alone but can’t call for help. Shane Black wanted to metaphorically put Stark back in that cave which he escaped as Iron Man.
The idea is to see the character of the man without the tech or resources, to test his mettle, not just his metal.
