Why should we cut the military in half? Look at WWI and WWII. If another major conflict broke out we would have to spend double just to get back to full strength. You don’t thank the military for fighting a war for a decade by taking their jobs.

Since the USA is the only country capable of policing and keeping order around the globe, its actually time for the rest of the world to pony up and help fund our military. Austria, for ex, should have a 5% surcharge income tax to be immediately given to fund our military.
