I wonder if this is a good time to bump this thread. From this article it seems unlikely anyone but the Iranians actually launched the attack. Or is it? Might Yemeni weapons have flown below detection before hitting their targets?
Not beyond possibility, @DeadKong.
The problem is that we have someone occupying the Oval Office out to “prove” how much “tougher” he is on our adversaries (with the exception of Russia and North Korea) than President Obama was.
IMO, that’s scary.
By the way…
Yemen is an absolute mess.
Not quite the absolute Bloodbath that Syria ended up being…but gaining ground.
Damn, Canada sold the Saudis some of their armoured vehicles. The US at least was providing airborne refueling for the Saudi airforce. Interesting, the Iraqis are at least saying they are not on any side. The US spends years fighting there and trying to set up a post Saddam government only to have them do whatever.
Well, the US invasion of Iraq removed a minority Sunni leader (Saddam) and made Iraq a Iranian colony run by the majority Shiites.
Only the heavy handedness of the Iranians who behaved like superior colonial overlords pissed off the Iraqi government that distanced itself somewhat from the Iranian regime. So Iraqi neutrality in this case is as much as it’s possible in the circumstances.
Thanks to the Saudis. I find it amusing how Pompeo is trying to fabricate a moral outrage over an attack that didn’t cause any casualties while thousands are dying in Yemen.
Also, I’m pretty sure MBS offered Jared and his father-in-law a massive lump sum to involve US in a war with Iran.
Just pointing out that despite all the talk about Trump wanting a war with Iran he fired Bolton who is the one everyone was worried would escalate to war. My humble opinion is Trump has no interest in wasting lives or money on any war but he knows we have to be strong and ready in the event that it is unavoidable. There’s a difference between talking tough and being a war monger. He thinks we’ve been perceived as weak by the rest of the world and he’s trying to change that perception. I happen to agree. That doesn’t mean he’ll wantonly thrust the US into needles war. Like it or not, America’s strength has helped keep a sense of order in the world.

Just curious if you accused Obama of a payoff from Iran for the horrendous nuclear deal?
Ah, the “but Obama” schtick, what, didn’t he give them a billion dollars or something? Or not.
What exactly was wrong with the Iran Nuclear Deal?
I have wondered in the past if some of Trump’s bluster could have panicked another government into an attack. this brings to mind having B-1 bombers flying close to the North Korean coast.
Bolton was maybe over the top in the sense he might have wanted war with about half the world at the same time.
I’m aware Obama did not give Iran 150 billion dollars, and that we weren’t the only country involved in the nuclear deal. But the deal lifted sanctions that were keeping Iran’s nuclear program in check freeing up roughly 50 billion dollars. So to answer your question, giving a country who swears death on Americans and Israelis, and who is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorists access to billions of dollars and the ability to proceed with the development of nuclear weapons seems like a pretty bad deal.
And how come it’s ok to pick apart every move trump makes but if you mention anything Obama did it’s a “shtick”?
One thing that got the Iranians like that in the first place is the fact that after geologists’ reports indicated the area has lots of oil, the CIA toppled the democratically elected government of Mossadeq because he was a bit of a socialist. Maybe he was friendlier to the Soviets.
Then the hereditary Shah was installed as absolute ruler, and he was a tyrant.
It’s not. I pick apart Trump the same as I did Obama. People just don’t like picking apart Trump’s mistakes.
The Iranian regime sponsors Shiite terrorist groups - Hezbollah, Iraqi Shiite militias that fought against ISIS and Houthis. The only situation where they break the Shia/Sunni gap is Hamas.
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia meanwhile sponsors all those Salafi mosques over the world as well as social media propaganda through which lone wolves are indoctrinated (San Bernardino shooter for example was indoctrinated in KSA), they provided logistical support and the majority of the hijackers in 9/11.
And they threatened Canada with their own 9/11 for daring to question their human rights record.
And that doesn’t even involve AQ, support for ISIS and the Taliban.
But as Trump says they “pay cash”.
So I’d say that the label “largest sponsor of terrorism” is up for grabs.
Stop with all the facts, already, @loppar…!
Trump (who we all know doesn’t know the details because he doesn’t read) said it was the worst deal ever. And don’t forget the obvious: Obama is a Muslim.
As your fearless leader would say: WRONG!
And to think that he planned to host the Taliban in Camp David on the anniversary of 9/11 …
