Yea, Democracy!
I don’t like Obama’s wait and see attitude with this, either. I understand that if he really gets into it, he could burn a shitload of bridges if nothing were to change in Iran, but I still would like to see more aggression on this. With that country teetering as it is, I think Obama could get involved and reaaaallllyyy push them.
I can’t think of any worse thing that Obama could do regarding Iran at this point than getting involved or trying to “push” anything. The best ammo Ahmadinejad and Khamenei could get right now is anything they could point to as proof that Mousavi is an American puppet.
Even Pat Buchanan gets this: http://townhall.com/columnists/PatBuchanan/2009/06/16/outlasting_the_ayatollahs. This may be the only time in my life that I’ve agreed with this guy

Unlike the US the Israelis have absolutely no margin for error. They cannot abosorb the damage of even one nuke. Obama’s Cairo speech basically threw the Israelis under the bus. Obama is too preoccupied with his own popularity numbers. The Israelis are not going to commit mass suicide just so Obama can continue to imagine he’s cool.

I didn’t. Never said that I have.
So then your concern about military service is just shit talking in order to stifle debate.

I had no concern about military service. I didn’t bring it up, some other douchebag did. All I said was that I don’t give two shits about who was in the military and who wasn’t, because it has no bearing on whether or not your opinion on politics makes any sense.

Those poor Israelis. Let’s pause while I weep for the Israelis, and their tanks and helicopters and missles.
Iran's Disputed Election - Photos - The Big Picture - Boston.com
Some unbelievable pictures posted above. Seems like the protester helping the injured riot policeman to safety ought to sit down and negotiate a settlement. Look like they have a vested interest in peace.
It’s a bit of a power struggle internally imo. They sent in the riot police with batons and gas. A few thug enforcers on the back of the motorcycles with handguns. It’s as if the government wants to let them get it out of their system. If they really wanted to shut it down they would use infantry and a few pieces of armor like they Chinese did. Be grateful we have the Second Amendment and an armed populace.
As to Obama…he answered “present” when the time came for the man to take a position. Hillary was right, he is the wrong man to get the 3 am call. His inexperience is glaring to the world. Contrast it with Reagan when he spoke out in support of Solidarity in Poland. Sometimes a leader needs to take a stand because it’s the right thing to do. Obama is a poor leader.
“There were also unconfirmed reports that Mohammad Asgari, who was responsible for the security of the IT network in Iran’s interior ministry, was killed yesterday in a suspicious car accident in Tehran. Asgari had reportedly leaked evidence that the elections were rigged to alter the votes from the provinces. Asgari was said to have leaked information that showed Mousavi had won almost 19m votes, and should therefore be president.”

Yep. Compare Reagan’s “Mr. Gorbachev, tear DOWN this wall!” to Obama’s teleprompting dishwater.
Oh, the Dems in Congress today cut out amendments to prevent funding community-organising if said organisation was being investigated for fraud. They also cut out an amendment that would fund a committee to investigated Pelosi’s allegation about the CIA lying to her.
Obama, Aunt Nancy, Harry Reid, Dick Durban (sell those stocks, Dickie-boy!!), Murtha,…
People actually VOTE for these creatures???

There is certainly a grandiose display of testicles going on in Iran, I approve, though I sense a blood bath is coming. The opposition leader is directly challenging the HITAIC…I don’t predict he and many others will live to long, but I admire the balls. This is the first positive developement in years in the middle east. Mir Hossein Moussavi is a dead man walking. God bless his martyrdom.

All I know is if all the protesters look like this, I want to be in the middle of that crowd…

Or give the conservatives exactly the excuse they want to blame this all on “foreign intervention” and appeal to a very real sense of Iranian nationalism.
I understand that, but it would it really kill him (and believe me, I’m cringing as I type this) to do something like Reagan did? To make a strong appeal, a real effort, into at least letting these people know that we support them?
I’m not, and never have been, supportive of wars to “spread democracy”- I am a firm believer that if democracy and freedom are so great, people will steal the idea from you and do it themselves, and the idea of fighting to spread democracy is really a great coverup for other aims. But fuck me, they’re doing it themselves, and we’re sitting here.
And as an aside, folks- I know you all hate Obama, but let’s not forget who told the Kurds to go rise up against Saddam and then let them hang out to dry. As I recall, George I fucked that one up.

And yea I noticed that. My buddy just got back from Iraq and said there was actually really hot looking Arab women, and every picture I see with these young Iranian broads is crazy.

I’m not sure if you meant it this way, but Iranians tend to be Persian. There are Arabs in Iran, but Persian culture/language (Indo-European, not Semitic) is predominant.
Anyway, yes, hotness.

Thanks for giving me a laugh. For a minute there you had me questioning my memory so I went back to page one where you wrote this.
“Yea yea. I love warmongers who never served themselves. So easy to send others while you sit back with your inhaler, eh?”

Remember this, sarcasm does not work well over the internet.
Obviously my point went over your head. The Israelis are not like Americans. When it comes to the safety of their people they do not fuck around. If you try to be a threat to their existance they will kill you. They don’t have a body bag mentality like Americans where they will take the easy way out and procrastinate on dealing with threats until after they have been hit.
Obamas weaknes is putting them in the position where they are going to have to take care of business themselves. Something which they are not afraid to do.
The Ayatollahs trying to stay the course with Ahmadinejad is proof that they have no intention of ending their drive for nuclear weapons.
Mousavi is just another one of the Ayatollahs stooges, so even if this supposed revolution were to succeed in replacing Ahmadinejad with mousavi it will change nothing. The only way there could be real change would be if Mousavi got in and immediately held new elections where candidates do not have to be vetted by the Ayatollahs in order to get on the ballot.
Without free elections with international observers and a genuine change in direction there is no reason why the Israelis should wait any longer.

They aren’t going to kill Mousavi. Moussavi is the Ayatollahs relief valve. If they kill him the protesters would be provoked and freed to coalesce around a genuine agent of change.
Two things.
On the Israelis “waiting”:
You can be assured that precise coordinates of every Iranian nuclear facility above ground…and every air and water intake of every underground facility has been mapped and plotted. They are also most likely practicing bombing runs; and most likely the Mossad/Israeli Special Forces have contingencies for taking out the intakes to the underground facilities…exercising almost every contingency possible.
As SIFU said; they won’t; and CAN’T “wait” for Iranian posturing.
On The Iranian People:
I personally think that they have been inspiring.
