…kinda makes you wonder
A coworker told me about this too. Does make you wonder what is in those. I haven’t touched a McDonalds fry for ages so I am unconcerned.
I do kinda want a burger though right now…

My guess is that the water content of the McD’s fries is much lower than any of the other items. The other fries were thick-cut, and anybody who’s ever gotten fries like that in an aluminum take-out container knows that they can get pretty soggy in a few minutes, even if they were crisp coming out of the fryer, as the water from the inside comes out. McD’s fries, on the other hand, are thinner, so there’s less water to begin with, and then they sit there under that lamp, covered with salt, for what can be quite a while before you get them.
The wierdness of it is oversold. I bet if you put some saltines in one of those jars they’d look pretty much the same after 10 weeks, too, for the same reason.
Maybe the McD’s fries contained much more salt than the larger fries. NaCl has been used as a perservative for centuries. Also as stated previously, possibly the larger fries, having much more water content was also a factor.

you could even try a couple raw potatoes… I wonder what would happen, but I imagine they’d pretty much be fine.
