Insulin to carb ratio and lispro insulin onset & peak

Hello,

With insulin humalog mix50 (50% fast / 50% intermediate) that has an onset = 15 minutes, and a max peak = 1-3 hours, and considering an ICR of 15g of carbs / 1 iu insulin, the total carbs needed in order to maintain that ICR has to be calculated for the first 3 hours, or for a shorter time?
Let’s let’s hypothesize 10iu’s insulin 15’ pre-workout and 150g of carbs (10iu’s x 15g = 150g), do I have to “spread” this amount of carbs over these three hours (or two, or less, or more) following the injection?
For example:

  • 50g few minutes after insulin inj (so, immediately before starting lifting weights)
  • 50g during workout (60’ workout)
  • 50g 30-60’ post-workout (so, 90-120’ min after insulin inj)?

Thanks,

F.

I honestly would not use this product for bodybuilding. I would either use it separately or just fast acting.
Insulin is nothing to mess around with and this scenario makes it way more complex than it needs to be.

thanks for your reply. at the moment I’m just gathering information to understand how it works and learn as best as possible… precisely because it’s a “complicated” product to manage.

Yep.

Most will only use fast acting with meals and perhaps lantus as a baseline.

I have never understood why anyone would use insulin unless you are a competitive bber.

I’ve done carb rotation up to 1000 grams of carbs per day and never touched it.

It’s super easy to get fat on it as well….

I think people get fat because they say “I wanna take X amount of insulin so I have to eat X amount of carbs” instead of just taking planned carbs and matching insulin to that. Those are the more is better mentality people.
