what’s up everyone. Of course I’m a newbie and I’ve got a question regarding injections. I’ve been concerned with air bubbles left in the solution before injecting. Are they dangerous. Also, I recently read a statement on some other site that you should pull the plunger out upon injecting to make sure you did hit a blood vessel. I have not normally done this but recently tried. When I did this a decent sized air bubble formed at the head of the plunger. Well, I got scared so I withdrew the needle and got rid of the bubble then tried to inject at the same spot. This really sucked.
Can anyone help me in regards to this. If pulling back is so important, what do you do in regards to the air bubble that forms. Do you just inject anyway? Help me out please. How worried to I really have to be about this. Am I just sweat’n small stuff?
thanks, I hope to learn a lot on this site.
The tiny air bubbles wont hurt you or cause any risks… It would have have to be a hell of an air bubble straight inyo your blood stream to cause a problem… I’ve had this trouble as well in the past. Just get as much out as possible.
well how do you get the bubble out once you have the needle sticking in your leg. or do i just pull back, see no blood and shoot. so i dont need to worry that once i pull the plunger back and see a bubble form. that bubble is just a void. i can shoot that. what about just not pulling back. like if i shoot in my ass cheek. there cant be many blood vessels there can there?
The action of “pull[ing] back the plunger and see[ing] a bubble form” is called aspirating, and it should be done wherever you shoot- ass or quad or bicep or wherever. Search for it on this site, and your questions will be answered.
Here is a good step by step technique for injecting:
Draw up fluid into sterile needle (you may want to use a different needle for injecting and dispose of the one you used to draw with)
With needle pointing up, flick the syringe hard to get air bubbles to top of fluid.
Slowly push the plunger until all the large air bubbles at the top are gone and you get a little amount fluid come out of the needle.
push needle into injection spot a 1 and a half inch is best for glutes, leave a very small amount of the needle still visible, in case of the very unlikely event it breaks off in your ass, there will still be enough sticking out to allow you to pull it out.
Once the needle is in this far draw back slowly on the plunger, just enough until you see clear fluid (looks like a bubble) or blood.
If you see blood, withdraw the needles and go back to step 4 (new spot) If you see clear bubble inject slowly into this spot, without moving the needle in or out anymore (keep it still)
Finished withdraw. you may get blood come out of the injection site after withdrawal, it may even spurt out, do not be alarmed you have nicked a vein on the way in, and not injected into it.
Personally I do not bother swabbing the area (my local hospital has stopped swabbing all patients injection sites as it is deemed unnecessary) but if you have swabs it does not hurt to swab.
You could also check out Jake’s thread. He has a 30step list on how to inject. A little excessive in my eyes, but if you truly don’t understand, it literally guides you through every step.
