Fellow Indie Music lovers, let’s share our favorite bands/songs. Here’s who I’ve seen fairly recently.
Walk the Moon- Saw them on 6th Street in Austin, TX. Incredibly talented group. Can’t pick a favorite song.
A Silent Film- Harbour Lights
Soldier Thread- Matador. A group that’s very under appreciated out of Austin.
Morning Parade- Headlights
*** AUSTIN CITY LIMITS 2012
Royal Teeth- Wild. Very under appreciated band based out of New Orleans.
Tegan and Sara
Gotye- Not a huge fan but they put on a great show. Fucking annoying when it became obvious that the vast majority of people who came to the stage were there only for their overplayed hit “Somebody I used to Know.”
The Wombats- Jump into the Fog
Oberhofer- Away Frm U
Delta Spirit- Bushwick Blues
Metric- Black Sheep (wrote the song for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World if I’m not mistaken), Breathing Underwater. Alot of fun live.

who cares about sub genres? Call it Alt rock if it makes you feel better. I listed Gotye because they were part of the lineup I saw at ACL, as I said.
No worries, I was just being a hipster.
IDK, the word ‘indie’ is so far ranging and stuff it’s kind of difficult to put a finger on it, but I do like:
Circa Survive
Bright Eyes
Cursive
Sebadoh
We Are Trees
Ramona Falls
Phantogram
Not sure what of those fall into the category, but I’ve had conversations with friends at great lengths trying to qualify what makes something Indie? Is it a style? Is it the fact they’re not on a major record label (which whittles down 90% of “Indie”) or is it something else. Is Death Cab for Cutie indie even though everyone has “heard” of them? Anyway, carry on, I’m a rambler.

Yeah it is a pain in the ass to define isn’t it? My take is for this thread it should be sound.

Indie is (for the most part) code for “too shitty to get mainstream attention”.
This is true, and if it does get the mainstream attention, they change the “Indie” feel out of their music and they are shitty anyways.
Well, its safe to say that a large majority of mainstream music is complete shit designed for consumption by the imbecilic masses
This, and there is actually scientific data to back up the sentiment that there is an actual mathematical formula to determine what songs will be well-recepted by the masses. Sad that so many can’t even understand that they’re literally being spoon-fed what to listen to by the large labels and producers.
LMFAO used to be an “indie band,” they blew up when Yes became popular with college brahs
I don’t think indie means unknown/independent/hipster like it might have used to. The music industry has obviously changed. To me, indie is just a genre that falls under alternative rock, seeing that alternative rock is so general that they put shit like Nickelback and Creed into it lol.
OP did you like Two Door Cinema Club live? I thought they would be cool to see as it’s dance music.
