See, I thought the mosquito joke was pretty funny in terms of inappropriate humor. It didn’t single out any individual victim while making light of a sad situation. It’s also primo shit talking between competing athletes.
It’s funny in the same vein as Dave Chapelle or Carlos Mencia, but when black people are the butt, look out! It’s institutionalized racism.
I don’t think it was particularly clever or racist. THe exact quote was:
"“With so many Africans in Greece, at least the mosquitoes of West Nile will eat homemade food!!!” she tweeted Sunday. "
That’s tasteless, and I suspect a racist intent given her political affiliation, but the comment itself is correct: the West Nile Virus origiated in Africa, along with the immigrants.
+++++++
I would actually contrast it directly with the Swiss soccer player that was expelled today, who was just talking trash and probably had no racist intent, but said racist things about the Korean football team – they were a “bunch of mongoloids.”
+++++++
Then there is Iranian racism where their players all suddenly get ‘ill’ before competing with Israeli athletes and thus forfeit. Or perhaps they just don’t want to killed at home if they lose to a Joooooooooo.
I wouldn’t pay for her comedy show but it was a pretty snappy off the cuff remark and didn’t allude to racism at all. Using a derogatory, known racial term and ages old tribal rivalries on the other hand are completely different stories.
I have no problem with the OC trying to keep the games held to the highest standard. Shit they should kick out more people.

LOL Unfortunately they will only apply their lofty standards to the kids or the athletes who are barely older than kids and let the dirty old men who trade medal votes go scott free. If anyone doesn’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll fill you in; it’s common practice for judges from one country to score an athlete higher, and into the medals, so their athlete will receive the same favor in return in another sport.
And, btw, my statement is not in any way a slur against Scottish people. I’m sure the Scottish are very honest.
Anyways, the Olympics are a contest of athleticism, not a forum for politically correct discussion. It’s a shame to see an athletic event compromised by overly sensitive weiners.

Oh… Well, I did not know that, but am not surprised.
Fuck those assholes then too. Ban the bastards. Only Eskimos should be allowed to be judges. No one hates eskimos right?

No one hates them? I just assumed that everybody hates them, and thats why they’ve been relegated to the north pole.

Apparently enough people hate them to give them their own hate speech.
I really had no idea Eskimo was offensive. I fucking love sushi.
She has recently expressed her support for Chrysi Avgi, an extremist, and often times violent political party that is not technically part of the neo-nazi movement, but it’s leader Nikolaos Michaloliakos has some very real connections to it in his past and his party shares many traits in common with it. They are very much anti-immigration, which some see as racist and I do not doubt that most or all of its members are racist, including Voula Papachristou. People just say she is a neo-nazi because they do not understand the difference, plus how many people in America will know what Chrysi Avgi is? You will get a more appropriate reaction by saying neo-nazi
That being said, that particular comment is not in and of itself racist. I think she was deliberately holding back and watching her wording to not make it a racist comment because she knew what thin ice she was in after announcing her support of Chrysi Avgi. In fact, looking at her twitter account, she has posted some very racist comments in the past but was never punished or censored in any way for them until she announced her support for Chrysi Avgi.
There also seems to be some confusion on here on who banned her from the Olympic Games, it was Greece that banned her, not the IOC. This was purely political. Nobody in a position of power had a problem with her racism until she expressed her support for a particular political party, and that is just as wrong as her racism.

Apparently you do, since eskimo is a derogatory term.

Eskimo means something like “raw fish eater”.
Not sure if still derogatory with all the Sushi crowd.
There are numerous derogatory terms that have harmless literal meanings. It doesn’t make them any less offensive however.
Yep, if you say “spook” when talking about or to certain people in the Intelligence community you are just calling them by an unofficial title that is entirely appropriate, but if you walk up to a black person and call them that same thing, then you better be prepared to get hit. Context does matter.
