In It for the Long Run: 260kg Deadlift, 200kg Front Squat, 130kg Log Press

So todays work out was the first time lifting a log in about 4 months. The programme called for log intervals. This is a log lifted for a single every X amount of time.
I decided on comp weight every 30 seconds. I was worried. I’ve only done comp weight a few times. And on the warm up I was all over the place. Lucky a guy I’m competing with was there (he is in intermediates I’m novice) and helped me a bit. Got my bracing better.

So 85kg - every 30 seconds 10 rep. Easy to be fair. Could have gone harder. But as a first log of 2021 it was okay.

Next was rowing machine. programme called for 20seconds on - 90 off. I did 20 on 40 off. For most of it after a sets I was fucked so took an extra set to rest. Even these were only 20 on and 100 off. And I only did this twice. So over all a great work out.
Then some tricep work and some back stuff. Nothing to exciting. But yeah - good log session and good cardio.

So so session today.
Yoke due for 3x250. But I only managed 1 250kg run. But I did get 210, and 230 in there as well.
The duck walk was easier than expected at 90kg. Its just awkward that’s all.

Then GM from pin 4x6. Starting at 80, 80, 100, 100.

Then super set belt squat and curl.

Finish off with ab roll out.

On a personal note. Took the boy to the gym. And It was great. We were there 90min and he only just started to get “bored”. he was a real trooper as well. Loads of comments about his work ethic. What a boy.
Also the other one is sighing up for for BJJ. Took him to the Dojo and he was a real exited. His ASD was going haywire. I could see it. But he made it through the door. And was 100% fine. But big shout out to the gym. They found out he is ASD and made a few tiny adjustments already to make him feel better. Dam - they are just nice people.

So GOOD sessio today.

DE dead lift into chains.
140kg in to HEAVY chains. Add a good 20kg at the top.
2 sets of 6.

Viking press
3 sets of 5. Got to 100kg for this. 100kg for 3 sets of 5. This feels good. REALLY good. I know its machine and its not a true 100kg. But its 100kg. It just feels good to have a working weight so high.

Seated press 3x6 45kg per arm,
Incline cable flies

Then a Bi’s Tri’s super set followed by
Straight arm lat pull down
SS with
Rear delt flie.

All over great work out.

Just been told off by my coach for trying to get too many PR’s in the lead up to the comp. I’m working to hard and running the risk of injury. So its time to drop the main lifts 10kg. Which I get. I’m feeling so good right now. Tired but good. I can not wait for the comp. Where I can “show off” where I’ve gotten to.

So - farmer walk. 2 sets of 100kg/hand. Focus on speed. I took on board @wsmwannabe and was a bit less caring about the equipment and shaved maybe 1-2 seconds off.

The deadlfits into bands. I put 180 on the bar. I used semi tough band. But it was harder than expected. I had to drop 20kg from the bar for sets 3&4. Added it again for set 5. Cuz.
so for 3 reps, 180, 19-, 160, 160, 180, With bands.

The pendlay rows. 3x8 at 90kg.

The lots of legs stuff.
extensions, GHR, pull through and leg press (3x8 220kg)

Yeah - I’ve shaved 10% of my time. And I’m looking to shave 10% more. And then who knows.
Of all the events this is the one I’m looking at attack. I want top 5. And I think doing it in sub 15 will get me there. But seriously thanks for the advice man. I’ll be thinking of you come show time and I run it in, in 14.98

Rolling extension 15kg 10 reps
SS with

3 sets

The seated row with hold x 12 reps 10 plates

Finish 2 sets of 12 rear delt flies

should I take this literally???

I almost feel backwards with the log in hand.
I got stuck just at head height. So I tried to push my head through. Lost balance and was all wobbly but I fought it and won.
If I’d have gone over backwards it would have been bad news. The log would come down on my face.and I’d be crushed between that and the smith machine.

Can you please ease back on the truth bombs @carlbm my man. My estrogen levels can’t handle it :man_facepalming:

Seriously though. You are taming the iron. Absolutely smelting it

Thanks man. I’m just in a really good patch. Gains are coming thick and fast. They will dry up at some point (don;t they always). And I’ll spend 6 month bitching about not being able to make any progress lol.

So - 2 sessions to log
Yesterday - yoke 260 20m return. was good. Managed to get the turn quicker. I think on comp day this will be a 30-40 second effort. One black mark was that trying the 260 for the first time I didn’t move it. But I was not engaged. But niggly fear now!
Duck walk 100kg. No issues.
The rest of the day was good. Belt squat kicking my arse. But I like it.

Today. Today was good today. DE / speed day

Dead lifts
went to 140+ chains but then took some weight off and did 120 with chains. As I was not getting the speed I wanted and what what doing yoke yesterday my PC is a tire tired.
Viking press 5 sets of 3 nice and quick. The flies. and other bits. No real issues. could not get on the seated shoulder press so used the SMith machine.
I’m tired now. As in REALLY tired. I think and early night and a good feed up are required,

Also - found out there are a load of guys form the gym going to my comp. Its going to be a good showing. Even a load of guys not competing but going to support. Which is great. I’ll have a few friendly faces to help with the nerves.

Some one liked an old thread @Irishman92 - and its made me think. 10 months a go I finally got 100kg over head. And I’ve not really done it again until recently with a 105kg log. That is not a lot of progression in 10 months. Really. I mean sure - I am adding weight and its a more difficult lift. But in all honestly I had hoped for more.
This is why we keep records. Its a truth hammer. Blow my feelings - and how much I feel like I’m winning - I was pressing 100kg 10 months a go and I’m still pressing 100kg. Time to reach a new mile stone.
Also Irish - good to see you back. I remember you from years back. And thanks for the like!

:scream: I tried this once holding a 10kg medicine ball… quad cramped after 20 steps or so… never again…

No worries mate, I have fond memories of these forums and it was good when I decided to jump back on that there is still a lot of old faces.

As for the like, anyone that can put 100kg over their head has my respect. For some it is easier than others but pretty much nobody can accidentally push that much weight overhead without some dedication to the iron.

It’s fantastic that it has made you hungry again, but also allow yourself that pat on the back as well :+1:
