Who is that in your avatar?

It’s suppose to be Perrin from “The Wheel of Time” series by Robert Jordan. Great series if you like the “sword and sandels” types of books. He’s written a couple of Conan novels that are great also.

I’ll have to check it out as soon as I’m done with what I’m reading now.

When I was reading Terry Goodkind’s “Sword of Truth” novels, everyone would mention Jordan’s books and they are excellant. Plus, the final book is already out so once you finish one, you don’t have to wait for the other one to be released. What are you reading now?
The only problem is that the first three books are excellent. They’re very exciting and move all the numerous and involved plot lines forward. The rest of the books however… Well, let’s just say they drag a bit.

Is everyone else getting the same chuckles from HH and ARL’s absurd rhetoric? I was serious about calling them out for their “devil’s advocate” joking manner but now I’m starting think they actually believe their own insane ramblings. “Hired IRS thugs”???

I don’t recollect hiring any goons of late, and if I did I’d have better targets to sick them on than some midwestern yahoos. Do these guys really believe they’re being specifically and purposefully victimized in some way? What world are they living in???

Which series are you referring to? I liked the 4th book in WOT, but the fifth wasn’t as good. In SOT the first few were great, the one’s in the middle where ok but the last one really tied it all together.
I’m not familiar with Roger Zelazny, but I looked him up and they sound like books I may enjoy. They sound similar to Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods” and “Anansi Boys”. Those books were a riot!!

Yep, I laugh at just about everyone of their post! I truly enjoyed Prof X’s Legion of Doom invite though, that has to be a T-Nation Forum Classic.

I genuinely would like to understand wtf they are thinking. The trouble is, neither has actually made a tangible point in any of their posts. They just repeat over and over that we are all losers and parasites, without explaining the logic behind that conclusion.

I don’t get why they’ve kept at it this long, especially considering ARL still thinks we are getting federal money to rebuild our vacation homes. I mean, why argue over something about which you don’t know the first thing?

I was referring to Jordan’s WOT series. I read the whole 10(?) books in it. By about #5 he seems to be so mired down in the intricate subplots that the main characters are back-burnered, along with most of the action. It was still good but it almost felt as if Jordan either couldn’t figure out how to wrap things up or was simply milking his franchise.

Zelazny’s series are great, as are Philip Hose Farmer’s, Anne McCafrey and of course Heinlein and Azimov. I read all those fantasy adventures decades ago in highschool but I might just consider revisiting them. I have writer friend that managed to keep all his copies that I could borrow from.

BTW, I think we’ve just won the award for going as far off the original topic as is humanly possible.

Remember the ALAMO!!! (Oop, that’s too far back)

Hahaha! Thanks for the heads up on the WOT series, I saw what you were saying in the last book, but now I know not to expect to much. We have a great used book store here where I get most of my books from. It’s great because if there’s an author I want to read I can read him for cheap. I guess we need to start a book thread, if one hasn’t been started before.
And just to let you know, HH was the first to get us off topic with his ranting and raveing about taxes. What a moron!

Many 14 and 15 hour days would testify against that. My uncle took me into the business at first as a simple hire, then sold me portions of the ownership because he wanted to retire.

The parasites would be you. I never demand, I engage in trade (work for money, ownership for money). You guys don’t ask you just expect help because you ‘deserve’ it. Bunch of losers.
Not so. I work too. Based on your taxes, I make more than you. I have not asked anybody for a penny. I have not recieved a penny from gov’t. My damage was repaired and covered by private insurance, so is pretty much every bodies.

The federal gov’t is assisting my city gov’t in infrastructure repairs where necessary.

My taxes do go to that, so does every bodies taxes who live and work here.

You can argue yours do as well, but then you would have to acknowledge that our taxes go to your state on a regular basis as we all pay taxes after all. And we do pay more as a whole which is in fact quantified but rather than averaged it is dispersed evenly across the nation where necessary. Lesser states do create a vacuum to support the roads and public structures you personally use.

If you refuse to quantify and average fine but don’t start lying and act like you don’t need roads, schools, police etc.

You have not paid texas a penny you havn’t seen yourself, assuming you’ve paid texas anything at all. You are incorrect in believing the federal gov’t is rebuilding vacation homes.

Well they are living in the midwest my friend. No mans land where 1st cousins marry and siblings fuck behind the barn. When they get really randy they involve animals.

Then they go to shitty schools and graduate with “applicable math” in place of calculus, “money in society” in place of economics and apparently “philosophy 101” in place of law and gov’t.

Then they listen to “pappy” the sister fucking farmer who runs an 11 man militia railing against the stuff he never learned about in the first place and finally you come out with the nations per capita largest social security drawing population with some of the lowest education ratings and highest rates of poverty. (minus a few deep south states)

Plus you have union strongholds and don’t even get in to discussions about farm subsidies and tax rebates if you want to avoid hypocricy and mind blowing ignorance.

As of yesterday, nearly 350 still missing from Galveston.

Classic case in point — thinks that need is a claim on the resources of others. Your NEED gives you a right…to nothing. No one owes you or Texans or anyone else anything. We might be benevolent and help you. However, when you send your hired IRS thugs to grab our money under the auspices of relieving your woeful needs, we just might say ‘NO!’ one of these days. What happens when you run out of victims or the victims simply refuse to help you?

All your shrieking for help and how you need our money are falling on ears that grow more ‘deaf’ by the day. Our money is OURS, not your resource to run to when the sewage system by your vacation home is overwhelmed by a hurricane. You CHOSE to live there. Pay your own bills. ASK for help, but DO NOT demand — if you demand, then you can and should get a big fucking middle finger.

This isn’t my point. Go back and read my posts and then address the points made directly.
I did, but you are too stupid to figure out my simple answer. By your logic, you owe California and any other place that pays more than you. That’s why a tax system can never be fair — whoever gets robbed the most can scream about ‘unfair’, never realizing that it can never be ‘fair’. Looting cannot be fair. Texans, according to your very own logic, are looting Californians…and New Yorkers…and Floridians…on and on.

You vote for a system of legalised looting, then scream about ‘unfair’, never realizing that YOU CREATED IT! Altruism gives you an excuse to rob others, but then you can also be robbed. Wow, what a good plan!!!

I suggest you buy a vacation home on Galveston Island, on the eastern edge as close to the Gulf as possible. Enjoy those sterling views!

Here in the north west side I am working with people who still dont have proper water.

I would have never thought this area would have been impacted so.

My points are fact. We all pay taxes, we all draw taxes through the need for public infrastructure that we all use every single day.

You are the retard claiming all your money is being sucked out of your paycheck and to my house which isn’t the case.

You have not accurately addressed anything and the topic can’t be debated with philosophy. Educate yourself. At least know where your finger is pointing. You are further proving mine.

Based on your post I can only assume that you agree that as we all pay taxes we are all entitled to infrastrucute repairs.

This is what I’ve been saying the whole time. A little twisting and an admittedly poor attempt at reverse psychology has you agreeing with me. I didn’t think you would just admit to being under educated and incorrect on the subject outright.

Texas pays it’s taxes. Texas is using it’s taxes and not for vacation homes but for infrastructure, the whole point of the tax system.

You do see my point and you agree with it. Thread over.

And we did have a family vacation home that recieved massive amounts of damage. It is currently being repaired through private insurance. Not a penny of my taxes (and certainly not yours) are going to the rebuild, as they shouldn’t.

Taxes don’t pay for private property, Taxes don’t pay for private property, Taxes don’t pay for private property, Taxes don’t pay for private property…

Oh that’s right! And you agreed with my stance! Silly me. Then you realized it would be in support of people opposing you in an internet debate so you flip flopped.

Nobody is looting.

I drive on roads. I went to school. I use public facilities such libraries, police departments, fire departments etc.

You do to.

They are a necessary part of life. Everybody uses them. With out them we would be a stone age society with no real means of transportation, a midwest level of education and anarchy out the wazoo.

The gov’t uses taxes that we all pay to organize society in to a useful structure on the most basic of levels that we all use equally.

That is a simple fact that you agree with! I mean really, you have been arguing with your own belief from my post #1.

And you are wrong that taxes are repairing private property. Just flat wrong. There is nothing philosophical about it.

For the record, I don’t believe you are trolling. I believe you really are just retarded and not sure what you are arguing.

Plus you are a teacher? Talk about a tax drain. Especially in your area. Step it up midwest! Why can’t your students achieve at the national average? Somebody needs a pay cut. I didn’t choose to pay you.
