I feel a boost of confidence from this. haha not as fat as i thought i suppose, ALTHOUGH i would like to thank you for your feedback, i will continue on my quest to lose some bf in an attempt to look like an unphotoshopped spartan warrior (300 is my motivation haha)
Yes! IF is amazing, week #2 and i absolutely freakin love it. Real easy to skip breakfast, and it’s wonderful going to bed full. typical “diets” always left me hungry constantly. thanks again guys
Yeah you are definitely lean enough, go gain some more muscle! I wouldn’t do it through the means of IF, though, that’s my opinion, of course…

You can do IF for gaining muscle too. So why don’t you give that a try?[/quote]
Not to hijack, but this is what I am doing at the moment. Managing my hunger has been the biggest thing holding me back, if I eat too often I simply do not get the calories in. If I am starving at the end of the day I will gobble thousands of cals in a few short hours. I am loving it. Water for breakfast to get my engine going, then black coffee for mid morning, liquid calories for lunch, then mid afternoon til dinner I am shovelling food down my gullet at a rate I have never experienced! It is strange how differently IF works on different people!
forevernade,
If you don’t mind in a few months time could you please update your progress with IF for size gains? The data pool for fat loss is very large but for size is limited and I’m always interested in hearing more feedback.

This avatar and your last avatar both betray your actual size, because of what the worm’s eye view is doing.
Hope your clean bulk/recomp goes well. I myself will be doing the same shortly (in 8 weeks or so) once having obtained my 5% goal.
what would be your approach PB?

Eat a lot of clean good food and not give two shits about intermittent fasting, lol.
^But… but… it’s so trendy!

Uh, sure. I never said I thought it was ideal. I am pretty sure I will put on some decent fat along with my muscle, only because blood amino levels will not be constant throughout the day. When I save up some more money I probably pulse some HWPI or MAG-10, which makes more sense for building muscle.
IF can work for gaining weight as well, at the end of the day it is still about getting the right amount of calories in. What’s wrong with trying to manipulate your body to use those calories more efficiently? IF works and traditional diets work, just choose what works best for you and what you can stick with. That is the key to any “diet”.

I don’t think Scott M was knocking you. In fact, he seemed sincere. I too am interested in seeing results of this. I know IF helped me go from 18% to ~11% (18lbs loss, I think some slight lbm gain). I know IF has helped me even maintain. I just don’t know what it’ll be like to try to gain on it (without possibly either expanding the feeding to 14/10, 12/12, etc or adding in some protein pulses). But I would like to see.
im doing IF, modified. haha maybe completely making it ineffective? I’ll have a whey/casein blend (0g carbs only like ~100 cal) in the morning when i wake up. and i just got a tub of BCAAs which i plan to take in the morning as well, half serving in the morning (i bike 4 miles to work) , other half before my workout.
I loved IF, but to OPTIMALLY put on muscle, I’m most likely going to have to give it up. It makes little sense to me (after reading studies by ppl like Layne Norton) that if to lose weight/maintain muscle, I’m in a more ‘catablolic state’ 2/3 of the day, shouldn’t I probably try and be in a ‘fed/anabolic state’ 2/3 of the day when wanting to gain muscle/weight?? Like I said, I’d love to see someone succeed with a really major bulk using IF, but I guess it just doesnt make as much sense to me when gaining.
^but then there’s consistently improved insulin sensitivity, nutrient partitioning via backloading, and the catabolism is supposed to affect fat mostly.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t disagree with you, but I have yet to make up my mind. My hunch is that an all out bulk yeilds more lean mass per unit time verses an approach designed to minimize fat accumulation. However, I am convinced that a natural bodybuilder can reach his potential with an IF plan, even if it might take longer, with the advantage of staying lean if that’s something people care about. Clearly it is, as this thread and so many others have proven.

Well I’m planning on IF’ing on my off days, and still backload my carbs, so I def dont think the concepts can’t still apply while bulking, but to me, if 16/8 worked so well for cutting, 8/16 seems decent for gains. MODOK has dived into why something like a pulse fast or warrior diet is more applicable for gaining, and after researching it myself, I seem to agree. Just FTR, I’m talking about those who need a good deal of muscle, def not those who are advanced, happy with their muscle, looking for small net gains per ‘bulk’.
Gump, you can eat meals that don’t spike insulin, and you can also back-load carbs as well, without doing IF. For example, I often have a meat and nuts breakfast (and some fruit), and save my carbs for during and post-workout. Simple enough.
