If It Was Called Muscle

Do you think people more protein if protein was called ‘muscle’? I mean, we call fat, well, fat. We see fat in our mirror and automatically assume it is bad to ingest. I like protein, the word, because I associate it with muscle. But carbs are getting a bad rap. Anybody propose a new name for carbs? ‘Energy’?

Calling protein muscle is stupid, just like anyone who equates fat to bodyfat is stupid.

Nice thought, but anything with a calorie can be used as energy. This includes: carbs, proteins, fats, and alcohol.

but muscle is more than just protein.

fat is just that, fat.

where as fat you look at in the mirror are really adipocytes filled with fat.

haha i’m an asshole.

I think the OP was just saying that people may be afraid of fat by word association. Choice of word is very powerful as we now, its a huge part of ad/marketing. But calling protein ‘muscle’ would definately be misleading,as people would assume by eating it they would gain muscle, or get ‘bulky.’ Wait, they already think that. So, to answer,it’s a moot point.

I don’t see why anyone would be concerned with word association for the “general public”. The general public believes that anyone over 200lbs is on drugs and that their heart will explode any second now. The general public thinks that anything that reads “low fat” can be eaten by the pound without worry of fat gain. The general public is filled with morons.

you are such a happy go-lucky guy in love with the world. i don’t know how you do it.

Maybe they should just change the name of “Fats” to “Lipids”.

Forget trying to promote higher protein intake. Let’s just undo the damage of calling the healthy macronutrients that are “Fats” by a name which certainly discourages their consumption by the masses.

Think of it, they called the macronutrient by that name specifically to discourage “Fats” consumption during a time when the medical establishment widely broadcasted that “Fats” were a boogeyman. The damage should be undone.

JESUS CHRIST.

Excuse me while I burn the rest of my anatomy and physiology degree while we are at it.

And we should change terms like ‘working out’ or ‘training’ to ‘sitting on the couch watching oprah’.

Yeah, really… that working bit in ‘working out’ is a real turn off.

Yeah and “filled” is the operative word.

To be honest I think that re-naming protein to muscle would in fact be the very worst thing that could happen. Can you imagine all the women who would stop eating tuna because they might get ‘muscled’. The real problem with ‘fat’, is that it’s called the same thing in the body. If ‘fat’s’ were called lipids then this accociation might not exist.

To sum it up for you and anyone else with the same train of thought:

No.

Yes that was the general feel of my post. Mine was more of a massage, yours more of a donkey punch.

It’s unfortunate that the public is misinformed about these issues, but the information is out there…

Prof. X,… when I first came to the site I was a dumb newb and you dissed me so I didn’t really like you for a while. Nonetheless, I stuck around and did my reading. I have to say, over time, you’ve grown on me, and I now appreciate your harsh but informative posts. You are hysterical, keep it coming.
